Do they have good job recruiting for engineering field specifically computer science? Is there computer science program good? What about their informatics program?

I chose UC Irvine mainly because they are the only UC with a dedicated school for information and computer science. I’ve heard that it’s program, in comparison to others, isn’t half bad. The professors definitely know their stuff. The one major in the ICS school I’d avoid is Computer Game Science, as it’s relatively new. I’m personally an informatics major but I can’t speak on how it is yet as I’m only a freshman and the classes I’ve taken are required for the other ICS degrees as well.

As far as job recruiting, I’ve heard nothing but great things. Internships and jobs are really easy to grab, the upperclassmen I know haven’t had any trouble in that aspect. I personally hold a position at the Office of Information Technology (OIT). As for careers, I’ve heard about Google, Blizzard, and local Orange County companies recruiting all sorts of ICS majors. In addition to all this, there are tons of job/career opportunities that you can apply online to posted on UCI’s Zotlink.

As I said before I’m only a freshman, but I can say that I definitely do not regret choosing UCI.

What jobs can you get with an informatics major?

Taken from the UCI informatics website(http://www.informatics.uci.edu/ugrad/):

A degree in Informatics provides excellent preparation for work at the forefront of the computing industry. Our graduates work in many industrial settings, such as start-up companies, small software houses, consulting firms and multi-national corporations.
Informatics careers include, but certainly are not limited to:

» software engineers
» information architects
» interaction designers
» system analysts
» project managers

Thanks! Is the informatics major very interesting to you?
