Does UCI have blocked sites in there network

I plan to live on-campus either mesa courts or middle earth. I plan bringing my desktop computer and hook it with ethernet. So if i want to use rapishare or torrent, is it blocked? What about online PC games? Could we play or is it prohibited?

I doubt that the sites are blocked…

My host told me nothing’s blocked, but if they catch you illegally downloading, they won’t hesitate to write you up.

I don’t know if they can write you up for illegally downloading but!!! They do restrict torrents and, if requested they will release the information of your download activity to the proper authorities. (got a nice lovely warning about this [not because I downloaded anything]).

Ah crap, that sucks. D: So your activity isn’t anonymous? >_>

when you log in to the internet you have to use your uci net id

Ah, so I’m guessing you can’t go on torrent sites and whatnot?

noope. i don’t even trust using things like mediafire even though it’s just a friend sending me notes that are too large for attachments… i always feel paranoid that the school will think i’m dling something illegal

awww you hella kiddin me?

i was gonna use torrents for a good purpose, downloading e-textbooks, practice exams and what not, the college commuinty audience on torrenting is huge and impacted, always good uses for Torrenting in college

well, i’m not sure if the school can see what you actually download vs. just recognizing you are using a torrent. you might want to check with your RA on that when you get to campus.

or you could just go out to the UTC and use the public wireless at lee’s or wherever, haha.

So torrents at UCI is a no go?

Man that sucks…
