Does UF like people that stand out?

Hey all, I'm looking to applying to UF, FSU and UCF this comming up fall.

I'm probably your average student perfoming academically with a 3.6 UW gpa and W I do not know. I did OK on my ACT got a 21...retaking it last time along with SAT in october.

Organizations I'm in are : National Art Honors Society, Ocean Explorers. Nothing overloaded like you usually see on this board.

Now to get to the point, I'm getting letter recommendations from 2 Art teachers at my highschool. Does UF like applicants that have won many art competitions , counties and regional in Florida? Does it help out a lot that I have won awards and recognition from my performance of the arts (scupture, drawing, pottery). I Know I'm not the typical 4.5 gpa 31 ACT 1410 SAT poster but are my chances realisitic in anyway shape or form to get into UF?? Also, what can I do to better my chances

Calsun

I think you need to raise your ACT around 7 points to have a realisitic chance.

Here is UF's 2006 FTIC Profile

Middle 50% of the Class

High School GPA of 3.9 - 4.4
SAT of 1220 - 1390
ACT of 26 - 31

I'll be honest with you. It's tough. Write a good essay, apply ED

I'm sorry to say...but your chances are slim at UF....but I guess there is always hope. What's plan B? FSU and UCF are not "shoe ins".

Ya I figured, I plan when I retake ACT to get around 25 and up range and ill turn in my 200 community service hours in, just joined class board and other groups. I'm doing all I can and I plan to write a fantastic essay.

Calsun do yourself a favor and don't give up, seriously man. Power of intention, the moment you begin to think your application will result in nothing positive, your lost

Do it, get in, and i'll see ya around campus

It's also important to be realistic.

realism is synonymous with safety schools.

the rest is up in the wind

For reference, all that negative talk about how you won't get in with low scores...I know a young lady with a terrific art portfolio who got into UF recently with an SAT around 1000 (I think below that) and a weighted GPA of around 4.0 (with AP art/other Honors courses, so that would be about a 3.6 unweighted). I think a steady course of serious art, partly indicated by awards, AP art, and good recommendations with good grades will serve an applicant well. In fact, the admissions office says GPA is the #1 factor, EC/Essay #2, and test scores #3. Diversity is not just in gender, income and race.

well yeah there are those variations but they're few and far between.

the part that freaks me out myself is i go to private school. although i have a 1400 sat my gpa weighed is a 3.7 and i'm in the top 10% of my class :-/ heavier grading system
