does usc really consider mid year grades?

I got a 4.5 gpa wich was my highest in my whole high school career so if they do that would be GREAT! i would think that they do consider it.

I believe they request them, so I don’t know why they wouldn’t look at them.

That’s great! Congrats on a high GPA. It will surely add to your application. And yes, if they have requested them then chances are they will consider them. Otherwise what’s the point?

i would assume that they play a significant role if

a) they were a marked departure of whatever grade trend you had before (bad, good, borderline, etc)

b) as well as if you had taken a verrrrry kickass schedule of a bunch of AP’s, Honors, and/or IB’s

yeah, they can only help you. Personally I was really skeptical, because mine were 3 A’s and a B, but with the courseload they were definitely impressive and the B was in AP French, and I’m applying to Viterbi
they were:
AP Calculus BC: 100 (A+)
Physics: 98 (A+)
AP Literature: 97 (A+)
AP French Language: 88 (B+)

coupled with a 3.91 GPA previous to my senior year with only 2 B’s being freshman year, I decided to send them in with the approval of my counselor, my biggest concern is that they’ll see it as a downward trend, but I think the 100 in BC Calculus more than makes up for any shortcomings. All in all, unless they’re really bad, I don’t think reporting them can hurt you too much, and if anything can help push you over the borderline from a rejection to an acceptance.
