I just checked CB about there info and stats, and was astounded. There average fin aid package was 9,000-13,000, while OOS cost is 35,000-40,000.

Is it worth applying to UT-Austin as a OOS if you need fin aid?

Is it worth applying to UT-Austin as a OOS if you need fin aid?

It is not. A state run college devotes its FA to in-state students. Unless you can get a huge merit aid award you could not afford it.

Then there goes my chance to go to Berkeley also :(

Should I lose hope with all then on Berkeley? Are they known for generous OOS aid?

^ California’s economy is in shambles. Do NOT expect anything near ‘generous’ OOS aid. In fact, expect to pay in full.

What is your home state? What are your stats?

I agree with Jayay90, we don’t have an economy here in California. Heck, I am not expecting any aid even as an in-state student…

The UCs do not meet need for their instate students, therefore OOS students need to expect to pay all costs.

Most publics don’t give much (if any) of its aid to OOS students.

Some publics will give generous merit scholarships to high stats OOS students (not UT or the UCs).

Think of it this way…publics charge OOS rates for a reason. If they just covered it with aid, then there would be no reason to charge OOS rates. Some publics will give OOS students big merit for high stats, but that’s because the school is gaining something by having that student come to their school.

Where are you applying?

How much will your parents pay each year?
