i did better on my ACT, composite of 32, than my SAT, 1930.
i am applying to the engineering college of UT, and I was just wondering, if i didnt improve my score on the SAT, will the ACT be held as the "best" score?
thanks

Yes, UT will use the highest of either ACT or SAT as your “best” score.

thanks so much. is chemical engineering a hard one to get into at UT

Last year they told us that most of the students accepted into ChE were in the top 5% of their class. They do rely heavily on the SAT/ACT (Math and CR) and your score of 32 should translate into a 1420 on the SAT. Good luck!

thanks queen!!!
i hope everything goes alright. ill try my best on the next SAT
do the essays help in getting into the engineering school or is it rank/test based

I’m pretty sure that essays matter. I couldn’t find anything exactly, although the admissions page for Engineering said they had a similar process just like admission to the university. That most likely means 50% Academic Achievement (GPA/Rank/Scores) and 50% Personal Achievement (Essays/Resume/ECs).

thanks hookemhorns, oh and according to queen’s stats, does this mean in the honors college or just regular engineering college

i hope someone can answer :/

Are you asking about the 5%? If so, that was for regular ChE. That was last year, though. I am sure it changes from year to year.

Oh, I am asking, does the 1450+ Math/Reading score apply to Honors or just regular

For fall 2009, rumor had it that a 1500 was required to be considered for honors, not regular engineering (all disciplines). For fall 2010, rumor had it that it was somewhat lower. As I said previously, I am sure the numbers change each year depending on the applicants. I believe honors is about 10% of the total number of engineering students.

thanks so much gueen of everything (:

It sounds like the SAT is not a good test for you. If you are trying to get a higher standardized test score for UT to look at, I think it makes more sense for you to retake the ACT.

can you withhold an AP score from sending to UT

No, but it won’t matter. I don’t even know if admissions looks at it, it’s more for claiming credit once you are admitted. Self-reporting AP scores is usually acceptable for applications.

thanks. is it hard to switch from regular to honors say if you dnt make it?

It depends on your college. Since you are obviously headed for engineering, you can get into honors after you have completed 24 hours. Here’s the page with all the info:
