Donlon!

So, I got my dorm assignment this morning. Mary Donlon hall, 4th floor. I am ABSOLUTELY stoked! I'm interested in any Donlon stories/memories, opinions about the rooms, dorms, people, etc. Please and thank you =D

Lol. We’re in the same dorm! Only Im 1 floor above you.

I stayed in Donlon some years ago, when we attended a summer program at the Cornell Adult University. It seemed like your classic dorm setup. It should be fine.

They used to have a little ice cream shop on the ground floor, don’t know if they still have that.

I lived on the 4th floor of Donlon back when I attended a few years ago. It’s the “social dorm” as you probably know. There’s always craziness to be had. Most of my stories about Donlon aren’t really appropriate for this message board but there’s never a dull moment!

My only complaint was that we didn’t really treat the facilities staff very well. The bathroom was always gross, sometimes intentionally so (people leaving toilet paper all over the floor, someone spilled a bag of chips in the bathroom and then crunched on them). Someone stole a dry door (we all had to pay for that). Someone wrote all over the walls and they had to be repainted (we all had to pay for that as well). Don’t be a ******bag. Just have fun.

Lol those stories sound interesting.

Yea, I think people tend to be disinhibited when they find out they are going to Donlon. Some dude peed on our door once. We lived literally 5 feet from the bathroom. Another time, someone stole a shopping cart (from Target I guess) and left it in our lounge. You can see why the facilities people didn’t really like us.

I lived in a suite my freshman year. I didn’t think I’d like it but it was a lot of fun. I had a good mix of roommates (I was the premed, my other 3 roommates were an engineer, hotelie, and architecture student) and the common room proved to be a good spot for mini-parties. Plus, if one of us had a girl over, the other person could just sleep in the common room which makes things a tad (just a tad) less awkward.

I do not miss people playing hall sports at 1am in the morning though.

Hey, I’m in the same dorm. Third floor, one of the suites!

Oh gosh. I’m really excited about the socialness… but I hope my dorm mates can refrain from peeing all over the place and stealing stuff… Perhaps things have changed? glad to hear that there’s never a dull moment though =P

I suppose it’s difficult to study in Donlon? How does that work? Can you hear the shenanigans even in the lounges downstairs?

I can’t wait to meet you guys this fall!

People pee all over the place because they are too drunk. I’ve heard plenty of pee stories and you will too.

If I could do it over again, I’d strongly consider living in donlon. The social atmosphere of Donlon is palpably a step above any other dorm. I envy all of my friends who lived there because they met so many people and made so many dorm friends. My dorm was full of outgoing and sociable people, but donlon seemed to be always active(, whereas mews had many off hours).

4th floor donlon here too!

Another 4th floor donlon here!

lived in donlon this past year, 4th floor. definitely a very social dorm, made many of my best friends on my floor, and most of my pledge class is from donlon.

you’ll love it.

I liked to study in my dorm room. I actually never set foot in a library my entire freshman year at Cornell, had no idea what the inside of the libraries looked like. I studied almost exclusively in my dorm or with someone else. But, at times, it did get too loud.

people from all dorms pledge. i don’t think a disproportionate amount of donlon people go greek.

bring a lamp though. Donlon dorms are pretty dark and weirdly lit with the lighting they give you. Bring a desk lamp and maybe a floor standing one too.

i said that to imply that most of my friends, including my pledge class, are from donlon.

bring a standing lamp, theres only desk lamps provided.

sounds like your pledge class could have used more people from mews ;)

and the other few came from mews actually

to whoever said they were in a donlon suite/quad do what my friends did…the quad is set up with two mini doubles that are only big enough for the beds and dressers and a common room where they thus put all the desks.
i’m friends with some girls who lived in a quad and they lofted all their beds, put the desks under the beds, then chipped in to buy a nice fuzzy rug, a futon, and a big tv for the common room. that + lots of posters, some comfy chairs, random cardboard cutouts, christmas lights, two fridges, and enough food for four people and many more, made for a totally awesome setup. at least 1/4 girls was always there so the door was always open, always people hanging out, it was like a second, cozier common room on the floor. people lended them xbox’s, brought food, etc. cause everyone was welcome. i used to go there to watch gossip girl every week and wouldn’t go back to mews until like midnight haha. i guess the only problem would be i could never get work done, but donlon does have a dorm library and study room (the morgue) for that.
