I've read the basic what-to-brings on the housing website, but I was still wondering on requirements as far as microwaves go. I've read that microwaves are prohibited in dorms, however, they also recommend the microfridge combo and provide a link for it. I was wondering, does anyone know if we can purchase the mini-fridge and microwave separately (since it would be SO much cheaper), or is it only allowed if it's the combo from the website provided for rent/purchase? If we are allowed to purchase the two separately, what are the specific requirements for the microwaves? If not, does anyone know where you can purchase a microfridge (not online)?

I'm not sure if I explained this well and forgive me if I didn't, but any information will be greatly appreciated.

i'm pretty sure you can only buy it as a set (sucks i know). a friend of mine is buying one that looks like it so that she can get it cheaper. i think if you search for it somewhere you can find a good deal.

If we can only get the combo, then that really sucks and I really don't see much of a difference but whatever. I emailed housing help ( housinghelp@learnlink.emory.edu ) but they really weren't much help since all they did was link me to the housing website and told me to read the bottom (as if I had not already done that). They didn't say whether we could buy separately or not.

Get a fridge. It's amazingly useful. Every dorm has a fridge for public use, but there's no guarantee that it'll be there in the morning. It's nice for leftover pizza. You can also take extra food from the DUC and keep it in your room. Drinks are a lot better cold, too.

I think nearly everyone in my dorm last year had a fridge. A lot of people do the micro-wave/fridge combo, which is nice, but since a lot of other people will have it, you can save money by just buying a normal minifridge and using your friend's microwave. All the dorms have public microwaves, stoves, and ovens, too.
