Jason - do you have a Facebook account? At last count my D the new freshman had developed 65 friends at IU from her FB account including finding her roommate. I'm really amazed at the social connection through this utility and how much they learn about each other. Perhaps you could do a FB search for your IU major or class of 2010.

Sure do, and the thought of being in the center of everything via dorms sound appealing, however, the limited space does not, especially considering how cheap it is to rent houses/apartments over there..I'm seeing nice places on craigslist for like, 300something per person! I come from South Florida so seeing prices like those just boggles my mind!

can any one tell me how the wright dorm is.do u noe the link to see your housing status

Read - good students who have fun but know that in college you should study on occasion. A good number of upper class students, so if it was such a garbage dorm they didn't get the message. Tied with Collins for being closest to academic heart of campus.

Forest - similar to Read but has AC.

Ashton - singles, true. Boring? Depends. Good location, not great.

Wright - like Teter, just with fewer resources. But it has dining, and it's location is really good. closest to the true center of campus.

Eigenmann - newly renovated4 or 5 years ago. A little removed from things, but you can grab the bus. Bookstore in the basement, and lots of services and stuff right there in the building. Good parking if you have a car.

Teter - Tight. RAs are cool. Lots of resources in the building.

Foster - I don't get why people like it so much. Lots of idiots in there, including most of the athletes. Lemmings. Good dining hall. No upper class students - they hate living with idiot freshmen.

Mcnutt - Ugly building, looks like a prison, disgusting inside, students are jerks and have inflated egos because they think mcnut is special. Bigger lemmings than Foster. Loud - you won't be able to study. Run like a police state. Can't be all that great if no one lives there after their freshman year.

Briscoe - location stinks but like eiganmann you can take the bus. No dining. Has it's own gym so you don't have to go to the SRSC. Good resources in the building. Smart students who know how to party but don't act like mcnutt or foster lemmings.

i think you're a little harsh. just because most freshman are idiots and care more about partying than about school, doesn't mean that each and every freshman is. you look ignorant by lumping all freshman into the "idiot, doesn't care about school" group.

I'm living in the Read Beck Hall. I'm a Kelley Direct Admit... should I even be there? I hear it's right across from the Music places.

Where should I try to go if I'm a Kelley student? Northwest Suburb? I forget.

I'm going to e-mail them if it would be a better convenience for me to live in the NW Suburb.

i am a kelley direct admit in Read as well. theres no need to change, especially in the first year. i doubt you are even taking that many business courses to warrant changing halls at the last minute. i'm pretty sure there is a bus that picks up at Read and has a stop at Kelley. it's only a 7 minute bus trip too. i wouldn't stress out about. otherwise, yes, northwest is the neighborhood closest to Kelley.

its definitely not 7 minute ride to Kelley, more like 15 minute ride with all that traffic.

ya, when its freezing and cold in the winter, those buses are usually full, be sure to get there early or figure out the stops without a crowd of people(library).

There is absolutely no need to take the bus from Read dorm to the Kelley school! It is maybe a 5-10 minute walk snail pace! You will learn that walking to class is the best form of transportation by far. The buses are unreliable and the routes are not the best because of the closed campus setting.

As for dorms, any dorm that you live in will be a good experience as long as you make it one. I lived in Eigenmann as a freshman. It was five minutes farther than the other central dorms but our rooms were by far the biggest and we had everything we needed (bookstore, cafe, coffee shop, DVD rental, parking).

In my perfect freshman year, I would have wanted to live in Teter. Definitely the best location and a fun place to be, but I have no complaints.

There is no reason to change dorms b/c you are a business student. You have to remember that going into the fall semester of freshman year, probably 1/2 of all freshman think they are business students. My advice to all of you is to work very hard your first semester (and all other semesters too), because most clubs, societies, honors look to that first semester for a judge of character and ethic.

Just remember, study hard, but also join some clubs. If you are in the business school, CLD (Civic Leadership Development), KSG (Kelley Student Government) are good ones to start with. They have call-outs within the first weeks of school so take advantage of them. Getting involved, for me, made a big university small very fast.

Well, I wish you all the best of luck. Remember, don't get too carried away on Welcome week. There are always 100s of freshman who go to the hospital b/c they think that alcohol will just disappear if they don't get completely wasted that first week.

I hope this helps:)
