Will someone please explain this process. My son scheduled his check in time for this fall. I noticed it is not at a particular dorm, but at a baseball field? We are new to this! Please help!

Did he purchase his tent yet?

I think regular check in is being held at a field because there will be so many students there. I signed my son up for early check in, and that is being done at the dorms.

The only reason you are going to the field is to get your keys and fill out a piece of paper. After that, you then head to your dorm.

Yea, you just go the field to get the key to your room, a map of the dorm locations, and a parking pass.
Don’t be hasty with this moove-in. It is absolutely hectic on the first two days. I did mine on the Sunday (3rd regular move-in day) at around 10 and it was a breeze. Your child may want to go to the dorm as soon as possible, but it’s not worth the rush (especially if it’s jester–long elevator wait). Also, the sooner in the day, the better because of the heat.

Suggestion,

You can move in early if you request and pay a small amount. This is done, because of the greek rush system. My daughter moved in to her dorm last year more than a week early. It made for an easier time. Less crowds at the elevator, and at bed bath and beyond. I would suggest going to your local BB&Y, and register for what you want. You can pick it up at the local bb&Y. They will have it in carts for you. As we came from far, it saved a lot of hassle and expense.

Good Luck.

The baseball field check-in is quite simple. The field is located just east of I-35. It’s easy to park and you just walk over and pick up your keys and sign a couple of things. It’s not literally ON the field, but right at the entry, where concessions etc. are normally sold. We were in and out in 5 minutes.

Thank you socaldad! Great advice on Bed Bath Beyond for all out of staters! Did your daughter move in even earlier than the posted “early check-in dates”? (right now the “early check-in” is 8/17-8/19 and “regular check-in” is 8/20-8/23)

Please note a change in Regular Check-In this year!!! It will be held at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Friday and Saturday ONLY. All other times, check in will occur at the residence halls. More information will follow. Be looking for the Living On Campus Guide which will be distributed at Orientation and will be posted on our website soon.
she moved in on what would have been Tuesday the 17th. She lived in towers. She dropped some stuff off on the Monday. Moved in on the 17th. We also shipped many items in advance. A couple of duffles.

is it okay to check in at a later date? like on august 23, the monday?

I believe so. I think on the check in website, there is a place to put in a time if you are checking in late. You can always call the housing people to ask.

Is it okay to check-in early just to drop some stuff off, and then to actually move in a few days later?

You can do whatever you want after you check in. However, if you check in prior to the regular check in day, you will pay $50 per night, whether you are staying there or not.

Last year I checked in at midnight of the first day, so it’s that first check in time available. I’ll be doing the same thing this year, driving to Austin late on thursday and waiting til midnight. There were several people moving in at the same time as me to the other nearby dorms but nowhere near as many as everyone who moved in during the day. We parked directly in front of MHD (didn’t have to go to the baseball field) and got all of my stuff up there pretty fast. Definitely beats the heat, the rush, and the crowd.

Dang, midnight check in? That’s really early. I have a 10am check in on Friday this year and I already have to leave here at like 6 in the morning.

It wasn’t that crowded last year at 1pm actually, I bet a lot of people took a break for lunch or something. I had parking right out in front of my dorm.

Damn, I paid to check in early on the 17th and I just noticed a one sense notification not in bold or anything stating that I can’t check in early because of the construction going on in Littlefield.

Understandable…perhaps, yes. But now I better get a refund or something because I remember paying 50 dollars… - thats how much they charge right? I was happy to move in early. :/

^ You pay on the day of check in, so you haven’t paid for checking in early yet.

Ah thanks again. I’ve lost track of that so that’s probably true.
