<p>How are the mattresses in the freshman dorms? Can anyone recommend anything to put on it if they are uncomfortable and old? Also, is there one phone line given to each student or one for each room?</p>

<p>I think there is at least one phone line in each room, but it probably varies between dorms.</p>
<p>Most kids use their cellphones. Kids not in big dorms tend to not get a land line at all. In the bigger dorms, it's more mixed.</p>
<p>my fool proof way to have a comfy bed with an expensive mattress pad was one of those cheap $20 foam ones AND one of those target mattress covers with a little padding. That, with a down or down alternative bedspread= most comfortable things EVER.</p>
<p>I would definitely get a nice thick mattress pad, preferably one of those ncie egg-crate ones. The mattresses were pretty hard and uncomfortable and I distinctly remember wishing I had a better mattress pad.</p>

<p>the mattresses are TERRIBLE! I have an egg foam thing, a mattress pad and one of those memory foam things on top of it and only then is it comfortable...</p>

<p>You have to pay to set up and get phone service there, so if you have a cell phone, don't bother. I didn't know anyone who had phone service set up in their rooms either.</p>
<p>And DEFINITELY get some sort of foam pad for your mattress. I would invest in something good though. I had a really thin egg crate pad that squashed down to almost nothing very quickly, whereas a guy on my floor was the envy of all with his folded-over king-size memory foam pad. Definitely a worthwhile venture to get something like that.</p>
<p>no college kids care to have their phone lines set up, they just use their cell phones. The only time they need one is when they are odering take out food and the place acts for a local number.<br>
In regards to dorm comfort- down mattress pads are the best and you can pick them up pretty cheap at costco or like stores. I also suggest getting a duvee cover one that washes easily since you are guarenteed to spill on it.

<p>This is my 2nd year at BU and I have yet to meet anyone who actually set up the phone service in their room. Everyone just uses their cell phones. You don't need a local number to order take-out food or anything.</p>
