Dorm Dilemma!

I have been admitted to the Plan II Honors Program, so I can get Honors Housing. Honors Housing guarantees that I will have an academically inclined roommate (which is good). But it also guarantees that I share a bathroom with 20 people (which is not good). Is it really worth it to live in Honors Dorms?

ALSO! Which dorms are single-sex by floor (specifically Honors, Duren, and SJ)? I've heard horror stories from a coed-floor-living friend...drunk guys breaking into rooms etc etc. I do not want that.

I applied for housing the exact minute the application opened, so I'm pretty sure I'll get my first choice. I just want to be sure that I make the right one. Thanks for your help!

People who live in the quad tend to keep to themselves...yknow hang out with Honors people.
So if you like that, then go for it.
Blanton has single sex floors with community bathrooms

Duren and San Jac are coed.. there haven't been any problems that I have heard of at all. If you can't handle living next door to someone of the opposite sex, you are going to have to grow up quite a bit during your time in college.

i just applied as a transfer...will i be able to get a room even though the applications started a long time ago??

My understanding is that if you did not apply for a room in October you are not likely to get a room in the university owned dorms. There are private dorms nearby, though.

uhoh... I submitted my housing app in mid-November. Do I really have little chance of getting a room in a dorm?

Actually, almost every year, DHFS has enough dorm rooms for all freshmen who request them. You might have to stay at Jester, or in a supplementary room, but you'll have a place to stay.

Many housing applicants end up either not being admitted or choosing to stay off campus.

You're fine--don't listen to the many uninformed people who will tell you things that just aren't true.

Transfers are a bit more difficult, because only 30% of the rooms are reserved for upperclassmen, and I believe returning residents get priority.

If you are transferring in, you shouldn't bank on getting a room and should try to nail down a room in an off-campus dorm or else an appartment NOW before it's too late.

I wouldn't worry about the Quad much. A few of my friends live there and I haven't heard any problems from them. Like one of the previous posts said, Honors kids keep to themselves mostly.

There's also nothing wrong with living in Jester. I have friends who live there and they have just as much fun as the Quad friends do. Everyone is always so quick to say Jester is horrible, but from what I've seen, it isn't bad. They haven't had drunk people running in or anything like that either.
