So I got admitted in December as a Plan II Honors student, and I've recently decided that I'm going to go to UT. \m/

However, I'm debating whether or not I should stay in an Honors dorm. I've heard good and bad about the Honors Quad (pros: quiet, intellectual atomsphere; cons: antisocial, dilapidated, etc.), but I would appreciate all input.

Also, if I do stay in an Honors dorm, which one is recommended? Which regular dorm is recommeded?

Thanks.

I asked this earlier and my understanding is that you only get to specify "honors" and they will put you in one of the three honors dorms.

The most festive regular dorm is Jester, if you want to be where the action is. The snazziest regular dorm is Duren, if you want the nicest, newest dorm rooms with private bathrooms. (The rooms with private baths are more expensive.) You can search in this forum for comments on all of the dorms - people have posted a lot of advice.

I think it is important to stay in the Honors Quad if you can. Blanton is usually where freshman are assigned. Blanton is getting all new furniture this summer!

If I applied at 6:10 AM on October 1, will I have a good chance of getting a private or connecting bath in Jester? I'd like a private bath, but not necessarily the extra cost of staying at San Jac or Duren if I can get almost the same thing at Jester.

There are no private baths in Jester. I personally don't have any experience with connected baths other than that week during summer. But I can say private bathrooms are way better than community. If you don't like live across the hall from the bathroom, it really sucks having to walk so to the bathroom. Plus San jac is much nicer, albeit a bit more antisocial.

There are private baths in Jester, I know a guy who has one and have seen it.

Some people have connecting as well (2 rooms per bathroom).
