Dorm mattresses

How are the mattresses in Maple Hill? Do we need to get an egg crate mattress pad? How often are the mattresses replaced? Any info would be appreciated.

I can’t speak to replacement frequency.

I will say that we did get my daughter an egg-crate (she was in Maple Hill last year), and she was fine. The mattresses are a little spare looking, so personally, I’m glad we made the investment and slugged the extra box on move-in day.

The new foam mattresses are infinitely better than the previous green mattresses were (they were somewhat like sleeping on bedrock without a foam pad- I put two on my bed), but I still used a memory foam pad with the blue mattress and it was pretty comfortable that way. The mattress is two sided, one side is firm and the other side is softer, so make note of that when making the bed and that should make it a little more suitable to his preference starting out. A lot of students miss that when they set up their beds and spend extra money trying to get pads to soften up the “firm” side of the mattress when they could have just flipped it in the first place.
