Which building is the most social/fun for freshmen? Also, which buildings have quad rooms? I saw one in Donlon and it looked pretty cool.

you'll hear this over and over again...and its unfortunately true. you really cant choose your dorm. hinting at what dorm you want on your sheet won't work either...you just cant pick your dorm. you can however choose the townhouses, program houses, or balch (if youre a girl lol). that being said, donlon is far and away considered the most fun/most social. word on the street has it that if you request a double and put your living style as being loud and rowdy...you might have a better shot at getting donlon. although theres absolutely no evidence that it works. and i have no idea about quads...i just know there arent many of them in any dorm.

basically...as a cornell frosh right now....i can tell you that its all luck of the draw whether you like your dorm, as in it all has to do with the people you live with. i know people who adore the low rises and hate mews, which tons of prefrosh desperately want. but anyway, its all in the mix of people you end up with. so basically, no point in stressing about it. just fill out your housing and forget about it. and when you get your assignment...dont read too much into it.

If you put "loud, rowdy, no respect for quiet hours or privacy, likes running through the halls at 2Am in the morning, likes getting obscenely drunk and then peeing on people's doors [which happened to me in Donlon]" they practically have to assign you to Donlon.

And, just to clarify, someone peed on my door. I didn't relieve myself on anyone else's door.

It could be worse. A friend of mine at Dartmouth routinely had his laptop peed on.

I stayed at Ujamaa. It was nothin like I thought it would be. I thought I'd feel uncomfortable in a black-dominated house but I'm planning on rooming there. The people were inviting, fun, funny, conforting. In my the days there I could feel myself growing. But I bet any place would be just as great. Cornell has a good breed.

Does anyone have any experience with the townhouses? Whats it like? Pros and Cons?

I don't live in one...but I've been in them and theyre amazing. the only problems with them are ... you have to take a little more initiative to meet people since you dont live in a big dorm, its pretty important that you get along with your housemates (or at least coexist with them), and theyre the farthest away from classes. other than that they are amazing. 4 people to a house, your own kitchen, your own living room, your own bathroom. you really cant do better as far as having a nice space to live in.

haha and norcalguy....it happens in my hall in dickson all the time. we've seen it all with obscenely drunk people peeing/throwing up in other peoples rooms lol

Dang it. I hope no one does that to me :P.

Haha, Lyr, if you're lucky, it won't happen. If you're unlucky, you'll have someone peeing on your printer. The worst was whenever someone threw up in the hallway--awful, smelly mess that no one wanted to clean up.

How I miss freshman year. ;)

what exactly are suites like? and are triples going to be a lot smaller (per person) than a double?
whats the most common kind of room? (single, double, triple, etc)?

Other than Mary Donlon, which dorm halls on north campus have quad rooms?

anyone know?

low -ises and high-rises
