Hi I’ve tried to do some research on the UF dorms but I’m still not sure how I want to do my preferences (Contract Accepted 2/21)
I’m a decently social person who parties occasionally but not a lot but I also tend to be quieter. I want to be in a social dorm but I also don’t want to be in one where its always loud with super parting people.
I would really like to stay away from communal bathrooms but it’s not a deal breaker. Most importantly I want to know which dorms is the CLEANEST. I really really really hate bugs (I know it’s FL so you can’t completely avoid them).
I’ve seen a lot of people saying Broward Area and Jennings are good but would anyone recommend Beaty? Or is Springs apartment style worth the less than ideal location? Or are there any that I haven’t mentioned? Thanks! (I am Out-of-State so would anyone recommend the Out of Stater LLC?)
I can’t really speak to cleanliness. Some of the rowdier dorms are Broward and Rawlings. The Yulee area is somewhat less rowdy (generally), but in any given year a lot depends on who lands on your hall, and who you end up rooming with. Jennings has been refurbished more recently so my impression is it could be cleaner/nicer. Beaty is a tower with slow elevators. But they don’t have communal bathrooms, you share with 3 other suitemates. Although it is a suite with a living area, it’s decently cramped for 4 people. Keys is a bit less cramped (if you can get it) and also suite style. Keys is a bit further from classes, so you’ll either have to leave earlier for class, or plan on catching a campus bus. (or biking or scootering) The out-of-state LLC is in Broward, but LLCs in general aren’t a strong presence. You may or may not realize you’re in one. The bus system is generally good.
For you I’d recommend Cypress over Beatty (same general area, but still suite style), or Yulee, Graham or Mallory (considered Yulee area, also close to Cypress) these are traditional style. Jennings is also a strong possibility. These are all close to a dining hall and many classes.
My son( who is a junior) had definite bug issues in Rawlings. Broward was similar according to the Facebook parents group. Some huge cockroaches. I really don’t recommend that particular dorm. Murphree area is lovely and the rooms in general are much larger than average. They also have what is called two room doubles. It’s a room that has a 3/4 wall between the rooms. It still gives you a dorm room experience with a bit more privacy. Also they have sinks in the rooms. Bathrooms are communal and not great though. There are a lot of youtube videos that are helpful if you search specifically by dorm name. Not just the ones produced by UF but by students. I know someone did a tour of Beatty and Murphree. Hopefully, that will help you see more detail of the ones you are interested in.
I can confirm the Cockroach Presence in Rawlings. If you live there, keep your food in secure plasticware. Murphree area tends to have more upperclassmen, and is harder for freshmen to get into.
