Dorm Room Must Haves?

My son is going to be a freshman in the fall and he is my first child going to college. I have a list from bed and bath on the must haves for the dorm room but I am wondering about posters and things for the walls. Can you hang posters up? My son wants to get a Univ comforter, any suggestions where to order? Any other must haves would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Posters…I think you can put them up as long as no holes or damage to paint. I think 3M Command products are OK.

Buy a 2"-3" memory foam mattress topper

I’ll find the link to the other thread with list items.

Here it is

Here is a great curtain rod that we bought last year. Also, bought a room-darkening curtain for my D.

Here is a photo on CC that shows Malanai’s S’s old room with bookshelf idea.

Bamamomfromny: PM me your email address and I will be glad to send you the packing list. It is an Excel file that I developed for my daughter.

Yes Bamamomfromny, Peachtide’s list is great. (Just have your son open his ‘teddy bear and fem. products’ box in the privacy of his own room.)

Also, haven’t seen this posted before but I’ll throw it out. I am including a magnetized dry erase board with diff. colored magnetized markers for the fridge. We have one, and it’s a great way to communicate in passing, jot down a quick message, etc… One of our son’s friends is so shy he will barely speak to us, but he’ll communicate through cartoons on the white board. Very fun. And if they don’t like it, they can hand it over to a girls suite, THEY will love it.

Command strips are awesome for hanging anything. Masking or duck also works for posters, and I’ve never had an issue with it damaging the walls.

For a student who likes to sleep in complete darkness, I recommend curtains. Even with the blinds down and closed, a light of light still gets in.

I purchased a bookshelf (pretty sure it’s the same one in that picture) after it was recommended on here, and it has been a god-send. I use the top shelf for displaying things (of course, that’s more of a girly thing - frames and such), and still have enough room for all my school books and my generous supply of “for pleasure” books.
