<p>About the car, UCSB allows freshmen to have a car, however, if you live in Isla Vista/2 mile radius of the campus, you will not be issued a permanent parking permit to park on campus. Only students who have on-campus housing will be allowed to purchase a permanent permit. Most Isla Vista students bike to campus.</p>
<p>That's not too bad, but what's worse is that the student parking lot is far away from all the dorms, so you'll essentially have to bike to your car (unless you live close to IV).</p>
<p>They have free night/weekend parking permits for students too so you can park on campus at least Friday night to Monday morning essentially.</p>
