The SU website says that you can only bring power surge extension cords - are they really serious about this?
Also, it sounds like fans are very important in the dorms without air-conditioning. Any suggestions - are you allowed to put fans in the window? My D is in Dellplain if anyone has specific ideas on that dorm, but any info will be greatly appreciated.

You’re allowed to put fans in, yes…no portable air-conditioners, though. The deal on extension cords–you will only rarely need one longer than a power surge simply because the dorms really aren’t big enough that you’d need the length! There are lots of outlets in each dorm, too, usually located intelligently with regard to shelving units and desks. However, if you feel compelled to have them in spite of the rule, know that the dorms can be periodically inspected by the RAs, usually over breaks, and a violation of the protocol could get your daughter in trouble. Usually the offending item would just be confiscated, so it’s up to you to weight the need with the risks. (I had two power surge cords for my two years in dorms, which was enough for both myself and my roommate. I used one for computers, alarm clock, and other desk stuff, and one for tv/electronics on top of our shelving unit and the refrigerator and microwave next to it, but we had our desks right next to each other.)
