Dorm Testimonies!

So, as the enrolling season is coming in, I thought it would be immensely helpful for incoming First-year/Transfer students to know what kind of dorms does UNC have in specific. Let's make a list of all the dorm buildings with detailed descriptions and testimonies!

Here's the list of all the residence halls in UNC (source: Housing and Residential Education - This Just In), and just fill in what you know about each ones (e.g. Co-ed/Gender-specific, Suite/Hall style, mostly upperclassmen/first-years, living communities, etc.)!

Yes… I just got in as a transfer and this would be SO helpful!

I’m thinking Morrison as my first choice as a Junior transfer. Any input?

Morrison is definitely my first choice as a first-year student…central air is the BOMB.

YESSs… if people could PLZZ comment on the dorms in an organized manner like this, reposting everything with their comments… there’s so much out there but i cant keep any of it straight. and an organized list of what dorms have what would be amazing :)

<a href=“University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Student Housing”>University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Student Housing;

This helps with a side-by-side comparison of all of the dorms and their features (AC, co-ed, suite, etc.) What it lacks, however, is the first hand experience only students can offer up.

So maybe we could narrow the question down a bit by stating which dorms you would recommend for transfers, first-years, etc. (by stating what is beyond the features and amenities). Thanks in advance for all help! Again, I’m looking at Morrison as my first choice, is that a good idea for a junior transfer?

I heard that most freshies live on south campus… and that they usually have the best freshman experience on south campus?? would you guys say thats true? haha I just highlighted what dorms i might like (just based on AC and hall style and coed) and all were on north campus lol

I lived in Kenan (which is just like Alderman and McIver)

Kenan is absolutely gorgeous, it looks like a hotel. The rooms are big, there are hardwood floors, and the walls are actually painted walls (not cinder block).

Some of my friends say they wouldn’t rather have lived anywhere else their freshman year but south, but I feel the same way about north. I’m a very social person and also serious about studying (but I think you’ll find that type of person all over Carolina).

I loved North because it’s so close to EVERYTHING - Franklin, classes, midcampus. Also, whenever you go off campus with anyone they ALWAYS meet up on north first. Kenan is right on the P2P stop, which makes it convenient for getting down to South whenever you want to. For me, that was about five times my freshman year. No joke.

hmm okay thats encouraging lol… i think id rather be closer to the quad, it seems like a hike from hinton james.
any specific dorms that are typically freshman dorms/dorms that freshman should probably avoid? haha i guess im looking for a hall that isnt tiny (like grimes, 40 students? wayyyy too small) and isnt massive (hinton james, 758), is decently close to the main quad, preferably not bunk beds, is coed, fun/social and good for freshman (haha idk if any are or arent, not subfree tho) and preferably has the amenities  like central AC, decent lounges, like cloying described wood instead of cinderblock would be nice lol.
just lookin at stuff breifly, cobb seems pretty cool

Ehringhaus and Craige are pretty much the bottom of the barrel. Neither has guarenteed AC and the furniture and appliances in the lounges are pretty old and not so comfortable. Craige is further away that E-Haus.

HJ is also pretty low in the ranks because it’s the farthest away and there’s this pain in the butt hill to climb up and down everyday. The upside is that everyone in HJ has AC.

HJ, Craige and E-Haus are pretty much the exact same buiding (HJ is 4 stories taller than Craige and E-Hause). All hallways are outdoors but your suite hallway is indoors. This is nice in the spring but not so nice in the winter. Everythings covered though. Morrison looks the same on the outside as HJ but is newly redone on the inside and is MUCH closer to north campus and amazing close to Rams and the Gym.

I’m living in E-Haus with no AC and it’s not so bad. South Campus is pretty social and there are a ton of Freshman, which is great, but from Suite to Suite, it can be harder to meet people sometimes. I still don’t know who lives on the suites to either side of me, but I have met other people fro the building in common rooms, etc.

Also, E-Haus baseball side on the 5th and 6th floor has a pretty sweet view of the stadium.

Oh, and rooms in E-Haus are really dark - one window and one small cieling light.

That’s what I got for now.
