Okay so I got accepted to FSU 2015 Fall but I haven’t visited the campus yet so I don’t want to make my decision without going up there. If I submit my $200 deposit and apply for dorms mid-April what dorms do you think I will get? I heard Smith is bad and I really don’t want to stay there (especially because of the community style bathrooms, yuck!) and I’m considering not even going if that is the only one available . I think that Smith is the only dorm on campus that is going to be like that (community-style) when I would go, but what are my chances of getting a nice, suite style dorm this late in the year? And also, what would you say the best dorms on campus are?
dorman and deviney are going to be brand new suite style in fall 2015. I heard wildwood is also good
Dorman, Deviney and Wildwood will not be available if you do not have a priority number
@NYIslekid Do you mean a high priority number because I thought everyone gets a number but the lower it is, the higher your chances of getting what you want are.
@mgcsoccer97 yes, sorry I wasn’t clear. Do you have a priority number? When I took my son to accepted students day our tour guide, his opinion, was unless your priority number was 2000 or less the chances of Dorman, Deviney and Wildwood were not good. Dorman and Deviney are central and brand new…Wildwood is also central and close to parking so it is very popular. Good Luck!
There really wasn’t any dorm that were bad, in our opinion. Its such a beautiful campus and each dorm has something to offer…don’t get discouraged.
@NYIslekid I haven’t accepted yet because my parents wanted me to visit before we put the deposit down (but I’m visiting pretty soon though ). How high was your priority number? All I know is I don’t want Smith because they have community style bathrooms and I don’t want DeGraff because it seems like the most unsafe hall because it’s like practically off campus…
my son is 1090
@NYIslekid Oh wow, that’s pretty good (or at least better than mine will be!). When did you apply for housing?
The first day it was available at 9:00am we didn’t get on till 9:30 (servers crashed) and 1/2 hour in he got 1090…crazy
I also wanted to let you know there is no unsafe dorm…they have their own police and Tallahassee police, as well. Go visit and let me know what you think!!! you will love it!
I hope I will! As long as I don’t have a community style dorm I’ll be happy! Lol
The priority numbers are in the 6000s already and the capacity is 6400, including upperclassmen. So I wouldn’t count your choice of dorms, in fact I wouldn’t count on a dorm at all if you wait until mid-april. According to FSU, in the past 5 years everyone who paid by April 1 got housing. This implies that not everyone after that got a dorm. Of course some people who paid will attend other universities so your number should improve, but I would err on the side of caution. If you can afford it, I really would pay. You can get $175 of the $225 back if you decide not to enroll, so it’s not a total loss.
Ugh, the earliest my parents will let me is like the end of next week… I’m going to apply for two of the LLC halls though and I heard that if you get your application in before their deadline (April 6th) then your in good standings for those. I also heard that some of the LLC don’t use the priority number?
@mgcsoccer97 you should urge your parents to pay soon. LLC accept at their discretion so if you are accepted to those your priority number goes away(since you ideally got one you will live in).
@Weeknd That’s good to know because I’m going to try to write the best essay of my life so I could get into the LLC. Would you say I have more of a chance of getting into those then (considering that my priority number will most likely be outrageously high)? And also I’m going in about a week to FSU, do you think that’s too long to wait?
Yeah, the kicker this year is that while Dorman and Deviney are rebuilt and will, I believe, eventually house more students than the old buildings, Kellum is being closed down and demolished reportedly in December, so you are losing one of the largest buildings on campus capacity-wise.
If you don’t have a priority number yet, I would start applying to LLCs today. Even if you aren’t 100% interested in one, if you want to live in a specific building that houses an LLC, apply to an LLC housed in that building. I can’t stress that enough, because you as of now would be living in Smith or Salley almost 100% guaranteed, even assuming you can get housing still (FSU Housing is notorious for stringing people along as late as LATE JULY telling them they can get housing when in reality it’s not happening, and FSU knows it).
Yes, I’m definitely applying to two of the LLC and I plan on spending my whole spring break working on my essays to make sure they are as perfect as they can be! I have come to the realization though that there is a high likelihood that I may be stuck with Salley or Smith and if I do get stuck with one of those I guess I’ll just suck it up and make the most of it. I haven’t heard the greatest things about them but me myself I like cleaning and such, so no matter what I think my dorm room will be clean (because my biggest concern about those dorms are the cleanliness and for Smith the community bathrooms.)
I live in tallahassee and I just want to let you know that the craziest crime happens here. There’s no guarentee that every dorm will be fully safe, there’s just statistics and trends. Kellum and smith are both the same in being the worst dorms to live in- like you can’t go a day without killing a roach- theyre a far walk from everything excluding possible science and math classes, you’ll always find pukers in the community toilets, and also the atmosphere and the set up just makes it hard to make friends- however!!! That doesn’t mean it’ll be the worst ever. Regardless of priority number, just sign up and hope for the best. If all else fails, I’ll be your friend because I haven’t signed up for housing yet and my moms like “im not paying all dat dough” so I’ll most likely get stuck in Kellum or smith but I’m shooting for landis or Sally or something. Whatever happens happens and really just make the most of your experience c:
So I got my priority number, 6632, haha. What type of dorm am I going to get? (But I’m applying for LLC’s too) By the way, thank you to all the people that answered!
