I will likely be filling out my housing application soon and since I have waited, I will likely get one of the community style dorms (Kellum, Smith, Deviney, Dorman), which doesn't necessarily bother me because I hear that they tend to be a little more social and they also cost less. So I was wondering the pros and cons of each one when compared to each other. If you had to rank the four, how would you rank them? Are they all pretty much the same, and if not what are the differences?

I know this doesnt really have much to do with your questions, but i think you should really apply for housing first before you decide the order you want to put them in, because i assume numbers are going quickly since I had priority number 2381 on December 9th(the second day the agreement was open). Not telling you what to do, just throwing out some advice. Good Luck! :)

im in deviney now. i would have to say for sure that its better than smith and kellum. the only thing about deviney is that you can get lucky like i did and get one of the bigger rooms, if not its probably gonna be the same size as smith and kellum. you might as well take your chances. ive been in dorman like twice and i still liked deviney better, but its not very different. kellum and smith are different, plus you should also consider which side of campus you want to live on. kellum and smith are on the west side and deviney and dorman are like eastside/central. there are a lot of social people here but they’re pretty wierd for the most part. sometimes theyre too social haha

thanks for the advise guys. I plan on doing the housing thing very soon. Which side of campus would you recommend? I haven’t visited campus yet so I don’t really even know what it looks like. Also, what exactly do you mean by “there are a lot of social people here but they’re pretty wierd for the most part. sometimes theyre too social”? That made me a little uneasy haha, especially since I still don’t even know if I will go to FSU or not (still waiting to hear back from some other places…including the _ lol)

i applied for dorman hall. i dont think you can go wrong with dorman or deviney.

so I guess

Deviney

Dorman

Smith

Kellum

Is this about right?

Dorman and Deviney are more centrally located. They are near Landis.

yup that looks like a good order to me =)

Lol looks like a great order to me too! Good luck again!

its nothing to feel uneasy about. my next door neighbors are pretty chill and a few others but there just seems to always be a crowd on my floor. mostly its the girls from the other floors that are annoying. im not overly individualistic or anything, just a regular guy who would rather hang out with his own friends. dorm life will be expierienced differently by everyone, so me telling you about my floor is completely irrelevant to your expierience. you deffinately need to get on campus. if you have a friend here, have them show you around instead of the tours we have. aside from some of the construction we have going on (which is a good thing), the campus is awesome. it trumps uf and um easy. plus i generally dont like gainesville and i always see uf kids getting into accidents on i-75 on my way to tally (they are some of the worst drivers ive ever seen), its just a crazy mess there all the time. miami is just a totally different ballpark and its pointless to even think you will get a traditional college expierience there. but hey everyone is different and so are the schools, you need to go check every school out and see what you find important.

I also live in deviney and I personally like it better than smith or kellum (only been in dorman once) I personally think smith has smaller rooms than kellum but kellum always has problems with mold and fire drills (smith has mold to but kellum is like bam!) Deviney also has fresh new carpets which is a plus in the winter so that the floor is not so cold. =]

^^ are you kidding me? deviney is about to set the world record for fire drills, its that damn 5th floor kitchen. but yes the carpets are awesome for cold feet.
