FSU dorm preferences

Simply out of curiosity, I was wondering which dorm hall preferences people are putting for housing and why they are doing so.
Personally I am planning to put my preferences in the order below:

  1. Deviney= newly renovated, centrally located
  2. Dorman= ^ same
  3. Gilchrist= centrally located and I’ve heard good reviews
  4. Broward= good location

I’m not completely sure of all of mine yet…
I have a few friends at FSU so I have some inside deets on the dorms
Deviney and Dorman are both new and located near the police department, so I’m assuming it’s going to be very safe there.
Kellum is getting torn down (or won’t be open for Fall 2015), and Deviney and Dorman are now suite-style rooms, rather than community. So the only community-style dorm left is Smith Hall.
Broward is now a female-only dorm and Jennie Murphee is co-ed.
Landis and Gilchrist are for Honors students only, so if you were not accepted into the Honors college, don’t put that down as a priority, it’s basically a waste.
I have a friend in Reynolds and he has said it’s fairly nice and in a good location (right on Landis green), along with Cawthon and Bryan. (Although, there are some rumors that Cawthon is haunted, I’m not sure how true these are though)
DeGraff and Wildwood are also fairly new and neither require a meal plan, but they have their downsides…
DeGraff is off-campus and right on the outskirts of a “bad part of town.” Although, from what I’ve heard, it is a nice dorm (my boyfriend’s sister stayed there her Freshman year). Most of the crime happens really late at night (after midnight) and in the parking lot.
Wildwood is on-campus and near the gym. It’s the newest dorm (other than Deviney and Dorman), but I just heard from a friend that they are currently having a spider problem… Not sure about you, but I want nothing to do with that [-X
Also, Wildwood is right next to the football field, and on Saturday mornings in the Fall, you can hear the band practicing. Some people would love that, but others would hate it, just a personal opinion I suppose. Also, a lot of the jocks live in Wildwood
Salley has a unique layout, but I’ve heard it is old and kind of run-down.

And I think that covers all of the halls… Lol, I’ve done a lot of research

Right now my priority list is something like
Reynolds
Cawthon
Dorman
Diveney
DeGraff
Wildwood

Thank you so much for all your time and effort on your post! Much appreciated    @bballgirl114

Can freshman have a preference for apartment-style dorms?

No. Only returning residents are placed in the apartment-style dorms on campus.

The buildings that freshmen can list as preferences are listed on the Housing site.

My top four are:
Dorman
Deviney
Wildwood
DeGraff

There are actually apartment style dorms available for freshmen to pick this year because a couple of other dorms will be closed since they are being torn down or renovated in 2016-2017. Ragans and McCollum are listed.
