I know a girl living at Marks this year and she has been so happy there that she and a lot of her floormates are returning next year. As Nikara said, the kids there find it easy to visit each other’s rooms and have fun. Marks is one of the honors dorms, I think, and many who choose it like the quieter floors, where fun is definitely happening–but in a less overly-loud way. Some have complained because it, like New/North, Birnkrandt, and other dorms, it is not air-conditioned and there is one side of Marks that gets a huge amount of sun–so the only downside is if you get one of those super-sunny (and hot!) rooms. Fans do a lot of good, though.

Important note- Marks Hall and Marks Tower are different buildings. I described Marks Tower above. Marks Hall, where I live, is 3 stories, with no elevators. It is an honors dorm, and it just got a super cool new exercise room (just opened today, and looks great!). It is nicely social, without being party oriented. Girls live on the 3rd floor, boys on the 2nd.

Ack!! So sorry Nikara. I was writing about Marks Hall above. I didn’t realize that is your building. Well, you have some very happy students there this year.

thanks, and another question,
i submitted a supplemental housing app for parkside a & h a couple of months ago, however, i have changed my mind, and now i want birnkrant… do i need to cancel my app for a &h (and how would i do that) and do i still need to fill out the supplemental app for birnkrant?

yeaa i hava me722’s question too

A&h has supplement. I don’t think Birnkrant, New/North, Pardee, Fluor has any supplement.

I would personally just stick with your original choice. Birnkrant is very popular, and has probably already filled up. Email housing if you have any more questions.

but if i submitted a&h supp application but i didn’t put it as my first choice, will they just put me in a&h?

If I submitted my housing deposit on 4/09, is that almost definitely too late to get a Birnkrant triple? :(

No one knows when certain housing assignments fill up, or how popular they will be each year. I really can’t answer that- you’ll just have to wait.

you can change your housing preferences up till may 4th.

all that matters is that you had your $30 in relatively early. as long as that’s the case, you have a shot at birnkrant. your preference won’t matter till after may 4th, so change it all you want for now.

Hey there! I’m an incoming freshman and money is extremely tight. I received financial aid for housing but I’m afraid it won’t cover everything. As a freshman what are the chances of me housing in an apartment? plus what are the differences between apartments and dorms besides prices (ie parties?) Thanks!

hey, quick question. I am going to be pre-med and I like the social atmosphere at New/North in the descriptions, but I was wondering if it really is party filled and there is an inability to concentrate in there? I think I have found a roomate who is majoring in the same thing as me, do you think we will still be able to concentrate?

You’ll be fine and if it does get too loud, you can walk across the street to Leavey Library.

Apartments aren’t as social so if you want the college experience, I would suggest living in a dorm during your freshman year. After that, people tend to move off campus.

Thanks! Hmm ok I see. But it is cheaper to stay in an apartment isn’t it? But it’s worth it as a freshman?

does anyone know if we are still able to change it today(may4) or was the deadline may 3rd?

it doesn’t look like the applications are complete yet, so you could probably still change it today.

What you may not know also is that if your room or roommate does not work out for some reason, you are allowed to request reassignment until a certain date in September, based on availability.

I just found out that the applications were due six days ago. How screwed am I?

Is there a way to apply late?

So after logging into my housing application, I see that I’ve been placed in the Radisson Hotel. I’ve heard from a couple of people that it’s pretty antisocial I was really hoping to get into Birnkrant. should I try switching or is Radisson a good choice? I’m really bummed:(
