Dorms at USC

Hope it’s okay to revive this thread with a new question. My son wants to fill out the dorm application now, but may want to go back and finish some of the questions on the supplemental app later - is that possible once he hits submit? I read here that it’s possible to change dorm choices, so I’m hoping the answer is yes for this, too.

Thanks!

Yes, changes can be made to most things. The username you select, however, will remain–so take care. ;)

So I was accepted to USC three days ago (WOOHOOO!) and after reading through this entire thread, I’m deciding between New/North and Birnkrant …and from what i’ve seen here, in terms of amenities and aesthetic characteristics, Birnkrant wins over New/North. However, New/North is more social…correct? But is New/North THAT bad in terms of the building itself, the bathrooms (are they nasty?) and the size of the rooms?

And also, do New/North and Birnkrant have co-ed floors? Or is it just one or the other?

I just want to make sure i have all my facts together before I submit a housing application.

Thanks!

How are Birnkrant triples?

Birnkrant is not antisocial, just like New/North is not anti-clean. As far as I know, both have co-ed floors. New/North is definitely noticeably older than Birnkrant though.

And as I’ve said earlier and will continue to say, Birnkrant triples are the best. Pick those.

Hi,
I plan on applying to live on the Cinema Floor of New College. On the Housing application should my first housing choice be “Elizabeth Von Kleinsmid Res Hall (New)”? Or is it the “College Residence Hall (New)”?
Thanks.

The EVK one are rooms with sinks… and the College one are rooms without sinks. The rooms with sink are a bit more expensive, but other than that they’re the same.

If you want to meet the most people… Have fun on nights when everyone is going out… if youre going to rush… if you want to be in the center of freshman life

THEN LIVE IN NEW NORTH

How useful/necessary is air conditioning in Los Angeles? I noticed only Fluor, Parkside, and Radisson have a/c… is it really worth it or is it easy to do without?

I live in LA and I think for the most part, you could do without AC. The weather is great, especially when school is in session (late August - early June). Of course, if you’re OOS, then it can take a while to get used to LA weather. I personally just like AC year round and like to keep my room at a certain temperature.

I’m putting down Parkside IRC and ARHC as my top choices.

My S had no A/C when he lived in Pardee his 1st year & didn’t have any problems with it, except for a few extremely hot & still days when they kept their fans running full-tilt. For the most part, I really don’t think A/C is all that important. The nice thing about Pardee was having a washer-dryer on every floor, as well as safes and a sink in the room.

it’s only REALLY REALLY hot the first few weeks of school.

Well, I’m from Texas, so that shouldn’t be a problem? And ‘adjusting’ to LA weather should be a pleasant experience, I should think…

I’m a newly accepted SCA major and I was wondering if a lot of Production or Cinema Studies majors live on the Cinema Floors in College Hall (in New Residential College)?

Hey! Just got accepted into Annenberg. I’m ridiculously excited at the moment and can’t sit still. Does anyone have any suggestions of which dorms are preferable and possibly situated close to Annenberg?

I want the Cinema Floor of New College 2. SO I put the New College options first. Then I put EVK. However, I only saw (2) New College pull-downs on the Housing Web page. At one time I saw (3) choices. I also had to fill out the Sup. Form for the Cinema Floor.

Hey War Chant - are you a freshman? What’s the dorm like (pros/cons), and if you didnt have to live there, would you choose to anyway? Thanks

Are you garaunteed to be put in one of the 5 dorms you request on your housing application? Or is there a chance of being put into a random dorm.

I just sent in my housing app. a week ago, so hopefully ill get my 1st or 2nd choice(new/north w/sink)

^ I don’t know about guaranteed. Singles and w/Sinks go fast, so if that’s all your choices are you’ll be SOL.

Keep in mind that if you’re signing up now it’ll be hard for you to get singles, w/sinks and triples since those accepted back in february and early march might have taken up all the spots already.

Ok, help me out…

I’ve been accepted School of Theatre B.A. and just looking on the surface I think I like Arts and Humanities or International but now I’m not so sure. Flour was my third choice.

I would definitely say I’m a social being. I like people, I have a few close friends and allot of acquaintances. I do want to have fun, I don’t know how much of a hard partier I am though…

I keep hearing all this talk about Brinkrant triples I know they might be hard to get now since I’m just now sending in my app but I’m all for trying.

Air conditioning seems like it shouldn’t be a big issues but it does worry me. I just, like the idea of having it. I’m sure I’d do just fine without it but still.

Overall I’m just not sure where to go.
