I’m trying to choose between Pardee and Marks Hall, does anyone know which one is the better choice?

I read somewhere people suggesting to stay away from Marks Hall and Trojan Hall… so I guess Pardee, I don’t know why though.

go with pardee

My S LOVED Pardee. One of the things we parents were very happy with is that each person has their own built-in safe, where you can store valuables. It also has a washer & dryer on each floor, which can be very convenient. (I believe they built the safes for the Olympics, when they built the dorm–only place on campus with those safes.)

I believe Trojan & Marks have dryers & washers in the basement that get VERY HOT–they warned folks not to go down there on move-in day or they might pass out from the heat. Most folks, I guess, must wash their clothes when it’s cooler at night or find other places?

I think those other two are significantly hotter in temperature than Pardee. My S liked the convenient location of Pardee. He also liked living in the Great Outdoors floor, that had several outings with the women’s Great Outdoors floor, which helped the folks mix & mingle (all included in student activity fees). They went camping, skiing and hiking. I think they also made a trip to the beach.

Our friends’ S was at Trojan or Marks (forget which) & he liked it except for the heat, which made him choose not to live there after his freshman year.

Living at USC without an A/C is all part of the college experience.
It forces you to go outside and enjoy the sun and hang out with friends more often.

also, this is kind of off topic, but does anyone know when fresman undergraduates are supposed to find out what they were awarded for financial aid?

You can call the financial aids office as they need to notify you very soon so you can make your choice before May 1 (the official reply date for all schools). Their number is 213-740-4077. Good luck!

How long do we have until we’re no longer able to change our Housing preferences or request a roommate on the app?

This is a little bit of a random question but is there a way to change your password on the online application because it gets annoying to keep checking what the password they gave you is.

I have decided that Birnkrant (TRPL and DBL) is my #1 and #2 choices due to its nice accomodations, great location, and good balance of studying and socializing.

From there on it gets more complicated. I know that I want to live in one of the dorms on the east side of campus -except for New/north (too much of a party dorm), but I am not sure which one exactly.

Out of the options of New Res. college, pardee tower, marks tower, marks hall, and trojan hall, which would has the best accomodations/clean living conditions? In terms of social life, it will be pretty much the same in any of these dorms, right?

ps. Price isn’t a concern.

Thanks guys!!!

crazi4uni,

new res. college is part of new/north.

pardee tower and marks tower are basically identical. marks hall and trojan hall tend to be less social.

Hey, do you happen to have any idea when Birnkrant usually gets filled up come application time? I applied for housing March 9th, but the roommate who I requested to room with sent in their app April 11th - do you think our dates will average out to a date that is very unlikely of scoring us Birnkrant, our first 2 choices? What would it average out to anyways? March 20-something?

So I was looking at the different rooms at IRC Parkside and Parkside Arts and Humanities. What’s the difference among the different types of rooms?: Double-6P-ST, Double-8P-ST for A&H and Double-6P-ST, Double-8P-ST, Double-7P-ST, etc. They are priced differently so I’m just curious.

I’m an engineering student and I want a nice place to dorm without all the chaos, so would these dorms work?:

Birnkrant Triple
A&H Parkside Double
IRC Parkside Double
Birnkrant Double
Fluor Tower Double

the 6P/8P is the number of people in your suite, iirc. :)

I’m not sure on the triple anymore; is it hard to get to sleep because of the extra person?

I just found out that I have to fill out a supplemental housing application for Birnkrant and Parkside dorms! Do these have to be very detailed? And do I need to be an international student or an arts and humanities major to apply for the Parkside dorms? How should I go about answering the questions on the application if I’m an engineer?

You don’t need to fill out a supplemental housing app. What gives you that idea? You only have the submit a supplemental app if applying to a special themed floor eg LGBT, Somerville (for Black students), Muslim Housing/SChalom (Jewish housing), etc.

Isn’t there an application for the general floor for Arts and Humanities and International Parkside?

Is there? lol All I know if you’re not looking for any sort of special themed floor in particular the normal housing app is fine…anyone else, correct me if I’m wrong.

hello there, i am an international transfer student and would be entering my 3rd year at USC.

Where do international students normally stay at ?

How about transfer students?

There’s a supplement app for Parkside in general, not just special interest.
