Is the mattress included in the UCR dorms? Is it new? Or old/used? Can I bring my own mattress, if there is one included but it is used? Thanks everybody!!!

It’s included and I’m pretty sure it’s used. I don’t really see a need in bringing your own, just put a mattress cover on it and then your sheets and stuff on top.

Scrappycoco, there will be a mattress provided for you in the dorms. The mattress will be used. If you want you can bring your own mattress, but where are you going to store the one provided to you by the university? Instead, I would suggest bringing in clean sheets and a towel to give the mattress a wipe down.

You don’t think the mattresses would be dirty?

they clean it every summer which includes a treatment to prevent bed bugs and other pests. you’re technically not allowed to take anything out of the room that’s included, so if you remove their mattress and bring your own you have to do it discreetly, and it’s a mattress so that’s impossible. just bring a mattress cover and clean sheets. nobody brings their own mattress.

I am not sure how well they clean the mattresses, that is why I suggest bringing a towel to wipe the mattress down before placing your sheets over it. And I do not know of anyone who brought their own mattress. If you do bring one, you will have to find a place to store that mattress in your room, and I do not know if you will have enough space in your room to set aside the mattress.

I hope they are clean, thanks x8

i signed up for the a&i dorms in my housing contract, (triple), what are my chances of really getting this??

The mattresses are clean. They clean them during the summer and replace them every couple years. I got a new mattress compared to my roommates. They also give you this cover thing, but you would have your sheets anyways. I doubt bedbugs would permeate through 3 layers of fabric

@socialgirasol - A&I is the least preferred out of the 4 dorms. In addition, a triple is also least preferred by students. Meaning you will most likely get it
