So I am currently a Freshman at our great university. At the moment I live in an apartment complex, University Club to be exact. But I feel as if I am missing out on an experience and connections by not living in a dorm. Would it be unheard of and silly to go live in a dorm next year? Oh I am in the honors program so I don't think any dorm is off limits. Anyway I just want to make a lot of new friends because I came here totally alone. Anyone feel free to share their experiences/advice on the subject. Thanks!

Move onto campus. You can always move off again the following year if you don’t like it. There are alot of students of all levels living on campus. If you feel you are missing out, then do it!

I came up to FSU alone as well, was the only one from my H.S to come here (the rest were wretched Gaytor bound), so i understand. One of my best friends was my next door neighbor last year as a freshman living in one of the dorms. Getting to know the people you live around is much easier as a freshman in the dorms because you guys are all in the same spot (literally and figuratively).

Because you are in the honors program (KEEP YOUR GRADES UP!!), Landis would be a great spot for you. I’ve heard Landis has somewhat diversity in the ages living in the dorm, but realize that most are still dominated by Freshies. Good places to make friends as a freshman are in courses like your freshman english courses and smaller size gordon rules.

I lived off campus for my freshman year and I hated it (I didn’t have a choice, I was not given a room on campus). I felt like I was missing out big time and I had a really hard time getting to know people. I wanted to live on campus this year, but ultimately I decided to live off campus again this year with a friend, and it’s better. I think a big part of the experience is living in a dorm your freshman year and experiencing all of those new things for the first time. For me, I decided it just wouldn’t be the same if I was older and living on campus with someone who was a freshman. But I don’t know what the best choice would be. Part of me would like to go and live on campus next year anyway, just to say I had the experience. It’s too bad they don’t require it, haha.

I lived in Cawthon in the summer and didn’t really like it but I think it’s because I was lonely in a single. I was place in Kellum for the fall but canceled my agreement and now I regret it greatly. I actually applied for Spring 2011 to move back on campus because I hate commuting so much. I feel like I haven’t made as many friends as I could if I lived on campus and like I missed out on on-campus events. I’m really excited to be back on campus soon, hopefully. I just feel like it’s really convenient to be so close to classes and the library. I find out in like a week or too whether I get a room for this spring or not but either way I already submitted my application for next fall/spring. You should apply for next year soon if you haven’t already considering we’ll be in the pool with all the new freshmen fighting for a room plus you want to get a good priority number. Good luck and hope you make the right decision.
