Dorms

I'm definitely going to UNC next year, but have NO idea where to live. It seems a lot of people are talking about dorms in south campus or granville towers (private). South campus seems fun, but so far away from everything. Anyone know anything about mid-campus dorms? thanks so much!

South campus really isn’t that far away. The furthest dorm is probably a 15 minute walk from the pit, and there are buses that will take less time. You get used to the walking and adjust your schedule based on how long you’ll have to walk.

I lived in Avery last semester which is on mid campus. Do NOT live there. It’s the athlete dorm and it’s loud but not social. I’m currently in Morrison and it’s less than 10 minutes to the pit, and 15-20 to Franklin.

For the other dorms on mid-campus, Parker is all female, and Teague seems decent. The rooms are big but the bathrooms are kinda gross. Carmichael has really small rooms as far as I know.

South campus is definitely the place to be as a freshman. You won’t have as many opportunities to make friends in your dorm other places, and there tend to be more community events. Nobody I know is dying from the distance to classes. I want to live on north next year, but I also might stay down here and live in the spanish house LLC.

Anyone who says that south campus is too far to walk everyday is unbelievably lazy.

Granville is great too. Very convenient to Franklin. Especially enticing if you’re interested in rushing since it is beside Fraternity Court. The rooms are suite style, but you can request a single room if you want. Cafeteria is in the building, along with weight rooms and outdoor pool. If you’re a freshman who wants to have a car, that’s about the only place you can have one. Best thing is to check out all the possibilities for yourself and see what you like best.

Are the people that live in Granville kind of isolated from the other freshmen that are on south campus? I want to meet as many people as possible.

I live on North Campus and its great. Kenan community has awesome dorms, but Kenan is all female. If you’re a freshman, south campus is the place to be. That’s where you’ll meet everyone and Koury and Horton are nice dorms. There’s also the U and RU that will take you where you need to go in case you have an 8am and its freezing out!
