Hey does anyone have any info on Buckman Hall or Sledd? Is it good for incoming freshmen? Buckman is getting AC so thats definitely a plus to the location!
I lived in Sledd for a year. Overall I’d say it was pretty average. Location is great, central AC is nice compared to window units, and it’s a historic building so it has a lot of character and quirks (like all the rooms being different sizes, walls with weird angles, etc).
It can be good for an incoming freshman, but it depends on what you’re looking for. It has a more private feel compared to the bigger, more “social” dorms (like Broward/Rawlings). The floor I was on was all male, and broken up into smaller sections that share bathrooms. The bathroom had a few stalls and a few showers and was shared between 5(?) rooms of 1-2 people per room. The only truly communal area on the entire floor was the kitchen, but I still think the different sections felt isolated from each other (compared to a dorm where every room is along a single huge hallway and everyone shares a bathroom). Also, I’m not sure what percentage of students that live in Sledd are freshman, but for a single data point I was in my 2nd year when I lived there.
