Dorms

Can any current UF student (or anyone for that matter) tell me how the dorms are ranked. I just saw a huge list online and have no idea which one to pick. I would prefer something moderate, nothing too boring and secluded and nothing too rowdy. Somewhere in the middle. Thank you

Cant really give you a recommendation, but I would recommend Broward if you dont want something really rowdy. I wouldnt pick the murphree area (fletcher, sledd, thomas, buckman, murphree) until second year because its a lot more 2 years and up and its kind of hard to make friends with how is designed. Graham area (Trustler, graham, simspon) isnt that bad of a choice. You make more friends with the traditional style dorm setup but you have to get use to the community style bathroom.

I'm wondering the same thing too. Currently, my choices are (double is my room type pref) Graham, Simpson, and Fletcher (changing this). I'm definitely looking for something that isnt very rowdy

So is the graham area the only traditional style dorm? And the Broward too right?

So posted this on another thread but will mention it here anywhere. Whaz up with dorms wit mold? Even the housing office is talking about moldy dorms as an issue with my asthma. Any insight On mold in dorms? They seem to say with my priority date of Jan 20 I could get an a/c dorm without carpet but 3 to a room. I saw that sample dorm and I don't see 3 people in them. Tell me anyone about moldy dorms or even dorms I might be able to get with that priority date.

real traditional dorms with "real" community baths (~4 showers and 6 toilets to 50 people) include: Broward, Mallory, Reid, Jennings, Simpson, Trustler, Graham, Weaver, North, Tolbert, and East. I believe that you make the most friends in the traditional dorms. You will get use to the community bathrooms the first week and after it wont bother you. If you are a clean freak you can go take a shower right after the janitorial staff cleans it.

If you dont want a really rowdy dorm dont go to Broward. Filled with extreme partiers and greeks.

I dont think mold is that big of a problem in the dorms, at least the ones I have lived in. If I had to make you choices I would pick either Graham area dorms (simp, trus, grah) or murph.

What about Hume Hall, it being the newest and all? Is it any good?

Hume is new and very nice. I was hoping D would want to choose Hume, but feels it is far from sororities (if she decides to join) and from other dorms. Oh well.

Hume is the honors dorm. Its pretty nice inside. The rooms have bathroom and shower and a sink. The common area is nicer. The location is decent. Down the road from the stadiums, close to the frats. The people in Hume are generally a bit more studious though, and there will be more star-trek type eccentrics.

I personally dont like hume. You will find people from opposite end of the spectrum like the studious one's that alanstats states but you also have the extreme partiers and ones that change once they get to college (starting drink, failing, having sex, etc).

If your daughter wants something close to the sororities I would recommend Broward. Its right next to sorority row and there are usually a lot of sorority-bound girls in there.

I certainly hope that Hume isn't all studious and treckie...I'm certainly more the drinking, partying and anything else type of guy, and so is the only other person I know who's gonna be staying in Hume.

I recommend Jennings for a girl who may be interested in the sororities. All the girls from our area (Broward County) who may be interested in the Greek life have requested Jennings as their first choice....and it is also very close to sorority row.

Wondering if anyone could help me. Im in a little trouble. UF never told me about the fall semester housing deadline (19th April). So i was taking my time with the housing deposit and payment stuff. However, I found this out on the 17th and i quickly sent the Housing payment ( as it is not avaliable online) with the check enclosed. I had the letter posted overnight. so that it would make the 19th April deadline. Then I checked my personal online housing page and the website said that they still hadnt received/ processed the payment id form. I dont know what to do, I mean I know I can always get an apartment off campus, but then I wouldnt be able to meet as many people and it would kinda ruin my college freshmen year. Shoudl I just assume that they received it, how can I find out for sure??

call them in the morning to confirm receipt.

I am not sure about the housing deadline but if you get frozen out of the dorms there are many excellent and social options for you. Check out the property listings at this website:

http://www.trimarkproperties.com/

or the private dorms at: http://www.windsorhall.com/
I have many other websites...apartments and private dorms are definitely available.

Make sure you called them, because I sent in my housing agreement in after the due date my freshman year and they changed my priority date to the date that they recieved the payment. It is almost impossible to change it back to the original priority date once they have changed it. Call housing tomorrow to see if they have recieved it yet.

Definitely call them and they have been very helpful and respond to my questions

I called them and they told me that they would honor postmarks, so there is probably no reason to worry.
