Dorms

Hello, I am an international student willing to enroll at TTU. I want to know some info regarding the dorms. I plan on studying mechanical engineering. At the moment, coleman and sneed halls have rooms available. Which of these dorms do you think will be best for me interms of learning communities, comfort, location and other services. A few specific questions:
Does any of these dorms have 2 separate beds instead of bunker beds in the double occupancy rooms?
Are there private bathrroms in these dorms and are they available to students who live in double occupancy rooms?
Can i change my dorm during my semester and shift to single occupancy rooms?
Thanks.

Of those two, Sneed is your best option. Sneed has movable furniture and the STEM (Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Learning Community and is close to the Engineering building. It has a sink in the room but it doesn’t have a bathroom in the room. Bathrooms are in the hallway, community style.

Coleman’s furniture doesn’t move so the layout cannot be changed. Coleman does have kitchens located throughout the building - so if you want to be able to cook at any point, you might want to consider Coleman.

As far as having a single room, I don’t know if Tech has that option - check their website for housing. The apartment style dorms have 4 individual bedrooms and two bathrooms, so that is closer to what you want. They did say on the tour you could put in for a room change, but I am not sure what the chances are that you could switch.

I want to transfer to those apartment/suite style rooms. Maybe I can go there in my sophomore year and if I am lucly then maybe even in the freshmen year. Th community style bathroom’s a bummer  does coleman also have community style bathrooms?

Yes, Coleman does have the community style bathroom, and it’s also some distance from the Engineering buildings. You can always check the “Room Availability Report” during the Spring & Summer to see if any rooms in the Suite style halls open up (some students will choose not to attend or may decided off campus). Murray, Talkington and Carpenter/Wells have the semi-private bath option that you would prefer.

Thank you so much for the info. Will be looking into it

Hey I booked a room at Sneed but a senior is saying that Sneed pretty much sucks. He was a freshman at 2012 though. He lived his first year at Sneed and then transferred into Murdough. He is telling me to go to Murdough instead of Sneed. All the science buildings are closer to Murdough and that its a better dorm even for me wanting to major in engineering. Any idea whether Murdough will be a good choice for me?

I am going to join TTU as a freshman engineering female student. I have chosen knapp hall. However, I would like to know that where do people shift during winter break if they plan to reide in the university itself??I am asking this because I am an international student and I have no relatives in US and I am not planning to come back during winter break. Also, I have heard that coleman hall remains open during winter break as well so should I cancel knapp hall and join coleman hall ?? please suggest

Hey there! Which country are you from and whats your major? And I think you should choose Coleman since most people transfer there eventually.

I am from India and my major is engineering. I would like to know why do most people transfer to coleman eventually?? Any specific reason?? Should I also cancel kanpp hall and join coleman hall because of the winter break.

Its mainly because its in a more convenient location I guess plus it has a kitchen so you can cook whenever you want. For your first year it really doesnt matter where you stay since you will be taking general science classes. Ita just that the senior female students that I have talked to said that they will be moving to Coleman so hence ai suggested as such. Btw which specific discipline of engineering? Like electrical, mechanical, chemical etc.?

petroleum engineering. The fact that only coleman hall remains open during winter break, is this true? Also what about people from other dorms live during the winter break if they do not plan to anywhere?

Can you please tell me the difference between knapp and coleman in terms of neatness or cleanliness. I mean to say which one would be a better dorm, considering how far the dorm is from engineering buildings
