how long of a walk is old campus from those dorms? Would I need a bike or would it be fairly do-able without one?

A bike may be a good idea if you’re in Botetot. I walk everywhere, although I live in Barrett. You can pretty much walk strait across campus in 15 minutes so a bike isn’t critical, but it can help. I’d put Botetot to Wren at about 12 minutes at a decent pace, which is actually pretty short in College distances.

Less than a 15 minute walk.

Botetourt is close to the Caf but there’s not too much to add to the list of good things to say about it. Lounges have AC but the rest of the buildings don’t; this only really matters for the first and last few weeks of the year though. And you can always get a doctor’s note for allergies and bring your own A/C, regardless of whether or not you actually have allergies. (This is quite popular in Botetourt and all the other non-air conditioned dorms. It will also make your room the hangout for the first few weeks until the temperatures drop back below eleventy billion degrees.) The bigger downsides are a considerable walk to old campus and a healthy population of roaches. The courtyards aren’t really anything special; Yates field and the Dupont lawn are nicer.

I’d definitely consider bringing a bike if you live in Botetourt and have classes on old campus. It’s about a 10-15 minute walk depending on your pace and a bike really helps, especially if you have to make more than one trip a day. Not absolutely necessary, but it can free up a lot of time during your day.
