Double Major in CS and CE

I'm finally looking into college websites now, and I'm finding some difficulty in figuring out how the double major works at different schools. I want to major in CS with either a second major in CE or a minor in CE.

For Carnegie Mellon University, I'm not sure whether to apply to their School of Computer Science (SCS) or Carnegie Institute of Technology (CIT): http://www.cmu.edu/admission/forms/2011/apply_freshman.pdf
Also, does anyone know where to find the supplementary essay for CMU?

Will edit post later - still looking at other school sites.

Hi, I am an ECE student at CMU. CMU does not offer Computer Engineering as a single major, but you can major in electrical and computer engineering and follow the computer engineering track.
If you want to major in CS with either a second major in ECE or a minor in ECE, you have several options.

  1. You can major in CS and minor in Engineering Studies. (apply to SCS)
With the Engineering minor, you can take CE related courses.

If you like to suffer, you can double major in CS and ECE. (apply to ECE in CIT)
You cannot double major in Engineering unless you are in CIT.

Thanks, that was very helpful! If you don’t mind me asking, how is the environment at CMU? The local area?
