Double Major Possible?

Is it possible to double major in Political Science and Psychology?

psych doesn't like to let people in who already have declared majors. you could do that if you declared psych first and then did polisci (i dont think they have any restrictions like psych). But if you did it the other way around it wouldn't work.

Wouldn't you only need to file some paperwork to get that changed?

um. not if she hasn't declared anything yet?

If she has declared, then yeah, but as long as psych is the first major it's doable. I think you can even switch into psych, you just can't have something else and then psych in addition to that.

haha what about communications and then business econ

same idea. comm doesn't have the restriction that psych has, and i guess it would be possible to add comm after doing another major. However since comm requires a great deal of preperation w/ high grades and has a pretty tough application process, I'd reccommend doing comm first.

Bus econ isn't easy either, though. But it's the lesser of the two evils.

I know people who double in both, but it's really intense (particularly in the lower division stages). Need to maintain very high grades in both departments.

uh why wouldnt u be able to do double in psych? i am...

You can double in psych if psych is your first major. In 2005 they enacted a new rule that says that you can't double in psych if you're already declared in something else. So if you declare in psych first and then try to add something else, you're fine. But if you do it the other way the psych department probably won't budge.

uhh this could be a problem. i was declared pre-psych all of last year. then i got into comm and i asked them what i needed to put on the "change of major" form they make u fill out upon acceptance. she said to put psych for before and comm for after and that it would switch my major to comm and i can declare psych later. so now on myucla it says im comm. so am i effed? what do i do.

Yeah I was planning on doing a comm/psych double pretty much all the way through CC until the new stipulations were published. Because you need to be admitted directly into both comm and psych, I had to choose one.

I would talk to a psych counselor and double check.

This is from the transfer psych page:

"Demand for this major significantly exceeds space available. **You must be admitted directly into this major; you will not be able to change to this major after admission to UCLA *. Students are classified as pre-psychology until they complete the preparation courses."

http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/lsmajors/psyc-pre.htm

To the original poster- I've been looking around and it doesn't state the same stipulation on the regular pages, only on the transfer pages. So you're probably good to go for the double and disregard my previous comments.

Yermama- you're a transfer, right? If you are then the stipulation applies, but if not, ignore me.

For some reason I thought it was all encompassing but it looks like it's only limited to transfers.

I'd still check with a counselor, regardless.

no im not a transfer haha..im a second year

ah why did i think you were a transfer?

i think im finally feeling the effects of massive sleep deprivation.

you should be ok then.
