Double major?

Does anyone know how a double major program works at UTD? I found that the school offers all the programs that I am interested in, but I’m not sure I quite understand what their policy is for double majors.
This is what I found on their website:

“The University of Texas at Dallas offers the following prescribed double majors:
Biology (BA) and Criminology (BA)
Business Administration (BS) and Biology (BS)
Economics (BS) and Finance (BS)
Molecular Biology (BS) and Business Administration (BS)
A student may earn a double major or a double degree but not both. A student may earn a double major or a second baccalaureate degree but not both.”

By “prescribed double majors,” do they mean these would be the only programs that can be taken as a double major? Or are those listed just specifically designed programs, like a dual-major? Would I not be able to pursue a double major in biochemistry and computer science?

I think you can. I read the same website and found that it did not limit it to those above. I think the above are the most pursued and they have a prescribed class path for those. For a more informed answer, I would post on the reddit board. There has been conversations about double majors on it or you could contact an advisor.

Double majors are those combined majors for which a prescribed path is laid out. You can do a dual degree in any two majors. The difference is that there are shortcuts in prescribed programs (classes in the major that count toward both degrees) that aren’t in the others. My daughter’s adviser told her that getting a double major in Speech-Language Pathology and Early Childhood Learning and Development actually required fewer hours than majoring in Speech-Language Pathology and minoring in Early Childhood Learning and Development because she could double-dip with the double major but not with the major/minor.
