Does anyone know if it is possible to double major at UCLA? Specifically for Biology and Music?

Of course it's possible to double major at UCLA.

Biology and music seems possible, but I'll let someone else chime in on that...

You can, but in this case, it won't be worth it.

Have fun trying to compete with the premeds in your LS and Chem classes while also pursuing a music major, which is very time-intensive all on its own.

It's possible, but implausible. Biology is basically walking into a nest of pre-meds, and music is hours in the practice rooms. If its for the fun of it, don't attempt it lest you lose interest in both majors. Check if there are minors that you can take, though, since you can sometimes get away with having GEs count for both a major and a minor.

there's no minor for music at UCLA

Yup. Theoretically possible, but highly unrealistic. I'm a music major, and believe me, science + music will be ridiculously hard...24 hours in a day is simply not enough time, unless you're some sort of prodigy at both. I'm trying to do prepharm and music and was hoping to double major with MIMG, but its not going to happen.

Because most people are convinced that it will be too hard to pursue both interests what do you suggest that I do? I love music and can't see myself in the future without it, but at the same time I enjoy science and bio and I don't think that I would be able to support myself with a music related job.

I'm just doing this 1 year of music to get the most out of it. That's the best suggestion I can give..

I love music too and its a sad feeling to just throw it away, but alas...here lies the line between passion and devotion. If you really want a double degree, I guess you could take a lot of summer school and graduate in 5+ years.

do you really love music as an actual career? or just an interest, and your career aims lie in biology?

there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in music without being the actual major. there's several ensembles to choose from, as well as practice rooms in the res halls and student organizations centered around music as a hobby. not to mention countless concerts and musical events.

I wanted to be a music major but I didn't do all the audition requirements :-(

Is it possible at all for a student accepted (as a Regents Scholar ;)) to UCLA's College of Letters and Science without music audition to change/add his major to music one? Anybody heard of achieving such a thing? What could be done for that? And how about double-majoring in music and humanities (foreign languages or linguistics or international relations)? Is it doable?

Don't be getting smug about the Regents Scholarship.

Go talk to Al Bradley in Schoenberg...he'll tell you what you have to do. AFAIK you have to audition...which means you'll probably have to wait until next year to do it. But talk to Al Bradley
