Double Majoring, Changing Majors, and Financial Aid

I’m considering going to Northeastern next year, but I had a couple questions first:

  1. Does financial aid tend to remain consistent over 4 year. I know the website says they always raise financial aid by the same % as tuition, but have you found that to be true? Also, about how much does their tuition go up yearly?
  2. How easy is it to change majors? What if your major is in a different school than the one you're currently in?
  3. How easy is it to double major? I'm interested in both business and science and the ability to double major is a big factor in my college decision. If anyone's double majored or knows someone who has - how easy was the process and is the administration helpful? How does this affect co-op, if at all?

Thank you

  1. 4.9% this year, 4.3% last year for an increase. If they say scholarships will go up with tuition, I see no reason why they wouldn’t actually do so. If nothing else, it would make them look really bad.

  2. changing majors is generally not difficult. If you want to change before you start, there’s a link to do so in the admitted students portal. Once you start, most majors have certain GPA and intro course requirements you have to take before you can officially change your major to that, but it’s typically not too difficult. Things like pharmacy, PT, and nursing are more strict because there are specific requirements and limits as a health care field I think. I’ve also heard anecdotally that there are a few slightly more difficult majors like international business, but I don’t have any actual experience.

  3. Double major is definitely doable, but these two majors would have very little overlap in courses, and if you come in with no AP credit, it could be hard to fit it all into 8 semesters. That said, you could look into what combined majors are available. These have she same number of course requirements as a normal major but they cover the essentials of two fields. You could see if something is available for business and any of the science majors. You could also look at a minor. This is a very common route and I know it’s one of the most popular minors for my major (behavioral neuroscience). In terms of co-ops, positions aren’t restricted just to certain majors. If you’re qualified for a job, you can apply for it. For my last co-op, I looked at a lot of jobs in computer science, computer engineering, and mechanical engineering.
