I'm sure many of the hotels in the Annapolis area will be filled with appointees and families before I-day. Is anyone else on here staying at the Doubletree in Annapolis?

We have not made our reservations yet. Is the Doubletree the closest hotel to the yard?

I'm staying at the Historic Inns of Annapolis. It's within walking distance to the Academy.

We're staying at Historic Inns also. Have stayed there 2 out of the 3 times we've visited Annapolis. Can't beat the location. Can valet park the car when you get to town and forget it until it's time to leave.

The Doubletree is pretty far from the Academy. Google Annapolis Hotels to get a listing of a bunch of hotels pinpointed on a map.

Loews is nice, too. It's about a 10 min walk from the Academy.

Doubletree is 3 miles from the Academy, and a little less than that from the stadium.

Mmm - yummy cookies at doubletree.

Doubletree does operate shuttle service to USNA

There are relatively few hotels within walking distance of USNA -- and you'll pay the price for them. Marriott is one. Loews and the new Westin are long walks. There are a few more. There are a number of less expensive alternatives that are driving distance (some may offer shuttles), including Super 8 -- I stayed there and it's fine, just not close.

One bit of advice -- book early -- for EVERYTHING. I think my parents booked June week when I was a plebe (no, I'm not kidding!). There just aren't that many hotels in & around Annapolis. Definitely ask about future events. Decide if you want to be walking distance and whether you want to pay for that.

Stayed at the O'Callaghan recently and enjoyed it very much. Their shuttle will take you anywhere in town. Valet parking and great Irish lassies manning the desk etc.

I have family that lives in Ellicott City and we're planning to stay with them. Would it be better to stay in an Annapolis hotel for the night before I-Day?

yeah man I'm staying there and have stayed there before in the "Oliver Perry Suite" (random and funny name for a room)

We also stayed at Historic Inns of Annapolis during I-day. But did not do so on purpose, initially.

Actually we purchased through Hotwire and Historic Inns was the hotel that was in the star category we were looking for. Hotwire does not disclose the hotel's name until after purchase.

For PPW in August we again used Hotwire and this time it was the Sheraton, also very nice.

Sheraton was under $50 a night and Historic Inns came at about the same or a few dollars more. Did not purchase them this early as that Hotwire prices get cheaper as the date you need gets closer. I did not wait til the last moment put pretty close. Had back-up reservations elsewhere, just in case.

Other son attends Princeton and we have used Hotwire for every stay for over the past 2 years there as well (move-in, FPW, football games, move-out). We are very fortunate to usually end up at the Hyatt Regency Princeton for about $52 a night. There is a website betterbidding.com that gives helpful tips for using hotwire and priceline and gathers up other posters' usage to help identify which hotel is which BEFORE purchase. And what is a reasonable price.

Hope this helps.

Kat

Hershey, im from columbia, which is right next to Ellicott City and im going to drive up there on I day, my brother did the same thing when he went and had no problems. Although he was a NAPster.

so your bro went on I-Day -1?
did he still have to report at the same time (early in the morning)?

and actually, my relatives just moved recently from Columbia to Ellicott City. They've lived in Columbia for the past ~20 years and we've spent every Christmas there.

There are some great B&Bs within walking distance to the Yard. I know that the Georgian House is owned by parents of a Midshipman. They are very helpful and accommodating and will make sure that you get breakfast even with a very early reporting time. Not sure but I would be willing to bet that other inns are also very helpful in that regard. The best part is that you could certainly walk, no shuttle needed.

Yea he went on I-Day -1, but I have no idea about the report time (too long ago.)
