Downloading Music at UCI

ya youre right gamerking… i tried downloading ubuntu here though a torrent. massive fail.

So does anyone know whether you can download videos off youtube with like realplayer or listentoyoutube?

www.vixy.net

Hey what about if my friend transfers me a song over AIM?

Try these, both of which are safe and running at the moment.

*Mulve–allows for song downloads
*Groove Shark–allows you to listen to what you want, on demand–but no downloads.

I already torrented a bunch of things (games, music, Microsoft Office~); nobody came to my door ready to arrest me. ┐( ̄ー ̄)┌ If you’re that concerned about downloading illegal files though, then just don’t bother with it. Or, like everyone else said, do direct downloads from Megaupload or something. Yeah… actually, DDL would be perfectly safe.

By the way, torrent speeds are normal for me. Well, it starts off at ~20 kB/s and sometimes drops to 0 kB/s, but after a while, it’s all smooth sailing (300+ kB/s). I’m pretty sure that’s not how it should be, right?

Man, I am really tempted to download a solutions manual off of torrents… =0

So are you still living life in the dorm after downloading the music, mintymint? No emails, fines, or allegations?

Gamerking, anything via AIM is fine. anything uploaded on rapidshare or z-share or etc. are fine.

Not sure about torrents though, but they seem fine.

Yeah, I torrent pretty much 24/7 and I’m completely unscathed.

Hmmm, it might not be something they crack down automatically, but after like a month or two?
Either way, it’s weird that the “Packeteer” service mentioned earlier that was supposed to kick your speed all the way down to 1 kbps isn’t coming into effect.

Lol, anyone get that “Downloading and Copyright” email today? Haha oh the irony.

"If the campus receives an allegation of copyright infringement based on your use of the UCI network via an IP address assigned to you, the matter is referred to Student Conduct in the Office of the Dean of Students for further investigation. If you are found responsible after meeting with Student Conduct, you are subject to UCI disciplinary action including, but not limited to the following:

loss of network access

suspension or dismissal from the University

restitution or community service"

I’d rather not risk anything, but hey I live at home this year so… :D

omg i just read that message. i live at home this year so it won’t affect me too much, but wow. they’re really cracking down on it!

Bad news. It is not just scare tactics. Do not download torrents on campus.

Yeah, I’ll tell you that, too. It’s not the RIAA anymore. Torrenting at a UC campus is like smoking weed inside a police station. I recommend you don’t do the latter either.

Would you get in trouble if you’re just streaming and watching videos directly on Youtube? D: Like if I were to watch some Asian dramas, would I get in trouble just for watching it on Youtube or Mysoju?

sweetlace, no there is nothing wrong with streaming or watching videos directly from youtube.

Youtube or mysoju is fine.

Its the illegal distribution that they are mostly worried about-- Torrenting –> others seeding off you. Thats where they catch most people.

i downloaded a movie from megaupload over someone’s wifi but that should be alright right? haha.
