At the Tisch Drama info session at NYU I went to this Tuesday, the rep said they tend to admit roughly 500 to yield roughly 350 (for all 7 studios combined, including Tech). That came straight from the mouth of the assistant admissions guy, no speculation! As for how many audition, I forgot to write that one down, but I think it was around 2200 no guarantees on that number though.

Also, (number in MT class)/(number of MT applicants) = ?? isnt really a statistic that means anything, whereas calculations like (number in MT class)/(number accepted) = % yield, and (number accepted)/(number of MT applicants) = % accepted, are. Just trying to avoid confusion :)

Does anyone have any comments on the comparative quality of the acting programs at Fordham? My D got acceptance today from Fordham and has also gotten into Tisch. I don’t think there is any question where she will go but the cost difference is significant. I suppose you get what you pay for. She auditioned for MT and I don’t think Fordham has an MT track. I know she may not get into the New Studio and she doesn’t really care. I think her parents care more then she does. New York is a long way from Northern California.

Well the big envelope arrived today and no it is not a dream. D did get into Tisch just as a number of you out there have been saying since she got the email on 3-19. I think it was harder on us (her parents) then her. Now we wait for studio assignment, which I understand should come in about a week. We live on the West Coast so the mail takes longer. Has anyone gotten their assignments yet? She auditions for MT and I know a little about the New Studio. But what are the other studios and how are they different? Maybe you can direct me to where I can find the answer to these questions?

The information about the studios is on the drama department website, you have to click prospective students and then curriculum.

However, some of the stuff on the website is rather general so your best source would be the students studying at the studio. Not even students in other studios can give you accurate info, a lot of times this is where the bad rumors start.

Yes, there is some (mostly) good natured rivalry between studios, and so on. Most people think their studio is the best, that the kids there work the hardest, are the best actors and so on. People from other studios tend to want to (it seems) criticize the CAP kids the most, probably (some theorize) because so many of the kids in other studios wanted to be admitted to CAP and were not, so they have an axe to grind. Who knows?

During a conversation with the Drama Admissions dept. on Thursday April 1st I was told they have more than 1000 incoming that wanted MT but have only 80 slots.

My daughter is assigned to Playwright Horizons. She did teenage summer conservatory program at Stella Adler and loved it; she hoped to be assigned to SA. We do not know much about PH except what can be found on the website. They say that their program is evolving - does anyone know what that means? What is the training like? How satisfied are the students?
