we have uniforms. red, black, or white polo with the school name on it. pleated pants in solid color (i'm the only one in the school who gets away with baby blue, pink, green, and purple pants), or shorts of length knee high to 3 inches above the knee, or skirts that at no point are shorter or have slits shorter than 3 inches above the knee. there's a whole list of taboo items, like sunglasses or more than 2 piercings in each ear or tattoos. unnatural hair colors aren't allowed.

Our dress code is pretty much nonexistant. It's supposed to be no tank tops, no midriffs, no skirts/shorts shorter than fingertip length, but there are only two administrators that actually try to enforce these things.

What happens if you violate a dress code/uniform?

During blazer season, if the DoS (dean of students) was guarding the line (every now and then), he wouldn't let you in the dining hall if you didn't have a blazer. During the rest of the day, the DoS would usually just say "where's your tie/belt school shoes, etc." (he was cool), but his assistant or secretary usually gave JUG (Justice under God--detention) after a warning (like if they saw you again that day or the next day.

I go to a private school and we're allowed to wear hoodies, sweatshirts, coats, jackets, etc. Flip flops are allowed on Fridays, which are free dress days. We have a Denim Day too, in honor of breast cancer awareness week in October. The thing is, my school is a bit strict on the uniform violation. It really depends on the teacher though. Usually, it's a one-hour detention.

Yeah, we usually get a demerit (=detention) for uniform things. It used to be so stupid though bc we have to wear crew length socks (which are impossible to find btw) and if your ankle was showing you'd get a detention. Or if you were like moving at all and your blouse became untucked (they come untucked SO easily) and the principal saw you you'd get a detention. Ridiculous. But we finally convinced the principal to let us wear navy knee socks so now I just wear those. The principal is basically the only one who enforces the dress code, btu some teachers will tell us to tuck in our shirts if theyve come untucked.

Haha also on days where we have away games for sports we're allowed to wear the school warmups so one day I was in a classroom and it was really hot so I rolled up my warmup pants and later went in the hallway to go to the bathroom and the principal saw me and gave me a detention. For having my warmup pants rolled up to like below my knees because it was really hot in the classroom. Sometimes I wonder.

we have a dress code, but nobody really enforces it.
so most people wear what they want. halters, tube tops, tight pants, baggy pants, etc.

but our school has pretty good dressers, so everyone looks pretty reasonable.

Our school doesn't have a dress code, but it just asks us to dress respectably. Which allows for girls to wear horrifically lowrise jeans with their thongs blatantly making regular appearances xx and guys wearing shirts with scantily-clad girls on them. XX. But I'm glad that my classmates usually wear sweatshirts and jeans, of course with the exception of the scarily fashion-conscious.

if you aren't in dress code you are liable to get sent home

I go to a private high school and our dress code is pretty much nonexistant. The weird thing is that the surrounding public schools have a very strict dress code (polos, khackis, dress shoes, etc) and we don't. Lately we have been getting more and more students enrolling in our school mainly beacuse of our super lenient dress code. Now it's very common to see girls wearing short skirts and revealing midriffs, but as a guy, i'm not complaining!

Supposedly we're not supposed to wear short skirts/hotpants, spaghetti straps, belly shirts, or coats (hoodies/blazers are okay, just no winter coats). No one really cares though except a few teachers. Some of the teachers even break the rules.

I wouldn't entirely mind a uniform as long as it had some mix and match pieces - like blouses/dress shirts OR sweaters, skirts OR pants for girls, optional blazers, and everything in a few colors or patterns (like a plaid skirt one day, plain one the next). Except for the whole freedom-of-expression infringement :). That doesn't really apply to private schools though, because you don't HAVE to go there.

Another question. What's there to worry about wearing to school?

because if you want to look presentable when you're out in public or are around people you like, you generally have to put together a nice outfit that matches, is flattering, etc.

i like wearing a uniform because it's already decided for me and i don't have to put in as much effort necessary to look decent

What's so wrong about t-shirt and jeans?

nothing if that's your style, but i'm not the type of person to wear a tshirt and jeans every day. plus i'd have to pick matching shoes, accessories, etc.

I love having a uniform. It makes mornings so much easier, as we have semi-free dress on fridays (collars, conservative clothing - ie - clean jeans, polos, dress shirts, no miniskirts), especially when the alarm doesn't go off. AND my uniform can be super cute if you accessorize and roll the skirt a little (our guidelines are pretty loose - required kilt and collared shirt, low shoes, not too much skin showing). Uniforms are fun - plus it means having something conservative for interviews in your closet.

My school has an erratic dress code.

-_-; I like how we have no uniforms and I know no one who complains over what to wear the next day.

Seriously, it's just school. Save your good, fancy, fashionable clothes for Friday nights.
