My daughter needs to choose. Honors college@Drexel or (non-honors) at Rutgers?

money, interests, are you NJ residents, does she know anything about being a DR. vs. just wanting to “help people” etc? Has she visited both campuses? Does she like Philly? What other interests does she have? Can you afford both?

She is a NJ resident. Has done research in the lab - did a program while in High School at Brown University (her dream school - which she did not get into!) and has been a volunteer for a couple of YEARS in a childrens hospital. She wants to be in a city so that is a plus for Drexel. But Rutgers does do MORE research in medicine. We had a discussion and it seems like Drexel will be the one. They seem to want HER more than Rutgers.

My son got into both also. But, not to pry, but did she get a lot of scholarship from Drexel? That would seem to make a difference, if money is at all a factor (maybe it’s not, which is good, then, and makes the choice easier!). Son got $13,500 a year, but even w/that, a $49k price-tag is hard to justify for a more regional school. Not to be negative though. Son has attended numerous prgms at Drexel & like it.

Good luck!

I don’t know exactly what the deal is at Drexel, but there is an awful lot of research going on within blocks of the Drexel campus. Drexel’s med school itself is not really much of a research institution (cobbled together from three failed med schools/teaching hospitals). But the University City Science Center (with private research companies and independent nonprofits) is literally across the street from the Drexel campus, and there are two Penn-related hospitals (HUP, Presby) and CHOP within five blocks of Drexel. I have to believe that there are some opportunities there.
