Drinking

How big of a drinking school is Notre Dame? I know its college and drinking will occur, I'm just wondering how prevalent and common it is.

i do think that it plays a pretty big role at ND. i am gathering this from other social networks, who have discussions about this. people say they do, so whether or not they actually do is another story, but it appears that drinking is the number one item of choice at parties, and is pretty prevalent at dorm parties.

that being said, it is college, and at all colleges you will have this “problem” (at least i think it is). however, if you don’t drink, which i don’t, i have been told that you are not chastised about it, which can occur at different schools.

additionally, i have heard that carroll hall doesn’t have too much drinking at all b/c their rector is really into no underage drinking.

it’s at every party, but it’s college, so that’s what you expect… let me say that i am going to be a sophomore next year and in my freshman year (i don’t drink), i went to parties most weekends and was never bothered about not drinking. sure, people keep offering you and friends encourage you to because they want you to join in, but you are in no way forced too and i have many friends who also don’t drink…

like seriously, i was pretty worried about it going in and it really turned into a non-issue… you can be like me, go to parties not drink, you can find people in almost ever section (i had 4 kids who didn’t drink in my section alone) and chill with them on the weekends, but there really is not significant pressure

just enjoy your time at ND and don’t worry about it.

^^thanks for the info, it was something that I was a little worried about

yeah, no problem hawkswim, i know that it is certainly something that can be worrisome as you want to fit in with others from the class but stick to being yourself… fortunately, you can!
