Is anyone driving a car in the states? I have a european drivers licence, but I think I should go to driving school in America as well. does anyone know how much does the driving school cost? what about the licence? I am quite terrified about driving in a big city...

Perhaps you should post this in some other forums page... This place is seldom visited by Americans..

yeah but I think it's a different thing for internationals and americans with drivers licence? So I am asking if any of the internationals have experience about this :)

omgosh im gonna have such a hard time driving on the other side of the road..

and i'm pretty sure you have to go for some test in the states (if you hold a non-u.s drivers liscence). It's like that for newzealand and australia..

Really? My dad managed to get a Romanian driving license somehow without the test. He has a Malaysian and Vietnamese driving license. Then again, he's old and a diplomat so maybe he was allowed.

My sister in the US has a driving license, but she can't help with this question since she didn't have one (Malaysian or Vietnamese) before.

Driver's ed is basically a waste of time. It's a pretty easy test to pass to get your license, but I don't know if that's just because I know all the rules. They make it easy enough so the dumbest person can pass it. Even if you fail, you can retake it the next day. Just follow the rules: speed limits, signalling, stopping, etc...

Americans drive on the right hand side of the road right?

Right. And from what I've seen travelling, the driving is much more passive and law-abiding in the US than some foreign countries. Then again, I come from Oregon with the nicest drivers in the country. California, on the other hand, has some pretty crazy drivers...

Yes, that's right.

The only countries where you drive on the left side are england, india, south africa...

Malaysia, too.

I forgot about Vietnam..can't remember...

And Australia .... basically all Commonwealth Countries I think.

In my experience, it is harder to get a license in Europe than in America, I don't know about the rest of the world though. If you have a foreign license, you are going to have to take the road test to get an American one but it shouldn't be too hard if you are an experienced driver. Most of the US is easy to drive, the only tough places are cities like LA, Boston, Washington and especially NYC - the toughest driving challenge in the country, and arguably one of the toughest in the world.

Bollocks. ;) I shout out that Bucharest or Ho Chi Minh City as one of the toughest cities to drive in.

yeah ho chi minh is a ***** to drive in

i'm gonna miss the roundabouts.. they dont have roundabouts in the states right?
Newzealand = left also..

Don't they have roundabouts in the US?
