Driving Test and My License

Hey,

I'll probably be taking my driving test within the next month and I had some questions..

How strict are they when it comes to parallel parking? For example, say you don't make it within the 18 inches to the curb? I heard that you can retry as long as you don't hit the curb?

How long did it take you to finish the test?

How much practice did you have prior to the test? I've been practicing about every weekend and a little in between for the past month and a half but I'm still really struggling with parallel parking...

Any tips for parallel parking? :)

Future Thanks

parallel parking I never had to do, heh that's what I get for living ina small town. The test may take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. Mine was about 40 minutes. Just drive carefully and good luck.

eww, stinks you have parallel parking. ohio has manueverability around some cones - so easy.

even though I didn't have to parallel park on the test, just some tips overall : practice parallel parking all the way up to the test day. even if you're not fully confident that you're ready, just take a deep breath and try because it won't hurt - worst comes to worst, you come back in a few days and try again. As long as you relax during your test, but still stay cautious, you'll pass.

I took the test in CA. The test was about 15-20 minutes. Didn't do parallel parking, didn't do parking, almost ran over a pedestrian on a bike (didn't see him until he was right in front of me), almost rammed into a house (lost control during a sharp turn) and still passed.

So it shouldn't be hard.

I just got my license yesterday. I took it 2 weeks ago and failed due to a rolling stop. Just stop for as long as possible. They are extremely lax about the paralleling. I was extremely crooked somehow and he was just like, ok, ok, go on. Then, I did the K-turn wrong and he flipped on me and told me to read the hand book. I was so scared it would be another fail, but then he smiled and said You pass..

Three Tips:

NO ROLLING STOPS!!!!

Be sure to use turn signals for almost everything lol.

Don't sweat the paralleling. I was nervous, they know you're nervous and are okay with it. Also, failing K-Turns is okay if you pass all the rest.

I think what you need to spend more time on is dealing with all that BS at the DMV. I was there for like 2 hours because they are so disorganized. Jeez...have all 6 pts. of ID for yourself and parents license, insurance, registration etc.

What IS a K-turn?
I know, it's pretty shocking that I got my license.

Exaggerate everything. When you check your blind spot and stuff make sure they see you do it. Go really slow and make sure not to speed. Make sure to stop really long at the stop sign. Just exaggerate everything. Make sure they put their seat belt on (I've heard of testers not putting their seatbelt on and then failing people right when they start backing up!). Parallel parking isn't too hard...I know for Washington it's only worth like 8 points, so the tester told me to try it once and if I don't do well just stop and go on with the test.

I've never heard of a K-Turn either... Is it like a 3 point turn?

yes, indeed, what is a K turn?

maybe its a typo and he means U-turn...theyre pretty close together

K-Turn is like 3-pt. turn but we are taught it as K. the overall shape of the turn resembles a K.

No U-turns on the test, though I love U-turns

K turn sounds like what i was taught was a y turn...

Good luck!! :D

I'm planning on getting my license sometime this month. There's no parallel parking for my license test.

Do you guys ask for the instructor's DMV badge when you take the test?

i did some research and found out what it was.
i have never seen this move performed.
i was not even aware of this maneuver, driving school didn't even mention it.

scroll down near bottom.

Difficulty of the test depends on what town/city/county/state you take it in. for example, near me there are many testing sites. there is one that people consistently fail at, whereas the one with wider streets and less people, people consistently pass at (referring to people in my hs and my brother) good luck !

Yeah, I really want to take my license test this month too, but my parents refuse to drive with me and the only experience I really have is driving in a circle around my neighborhood and ~9 hours of lessons :[

That would NOT be enough to pass, right? (I don't think I'm that good of a driver lol, but I can be decent... I guess o.o)

Drivers Ed = Wayver = No Test = Automatic license

Not for most schools. We take driver's ed to pass the written, but not the road test. you're school is a rare exception and I think you mean "waiver"

First of all **** you for correcting my spelling, I really don't care. And I didn't take drivers ed. at my school it was like a city/state summer program. Peace
