Dropping a class during Summer Session

So I had my first meeting yesterday and I don't like the class. I know I will get most of my refund back (minus $233), but my concern is the "W" I get on my transcript. My plans right now are to either a). get a MFT or go to a (b) post-bacc med program. Will a W hurt my chances getting into these programs/med school?

Quoting from the policies [Change/Drop/Add Courses | Berkeley Summer Sessions](http://summer.berkeley.edu/student-services/change/drop/add-course#Cancellation) :

What the Record Shows

A notation of “Withdrew via petition, Summer, 2011” will appear on your UC Berkeley transcript. This notation cannot be removed. The notation is not a “W” grade and will not affect your overall GPA.

Withdrawal is only if this is the only class you registered for in summer session. You can avoid that by finding some light class to register in, do that first, then you are ‘dropping’ a class and not ‘withdrawing from all classes’.

Mind telling us what the class is? :p

@ rider: unfortunately, this is the only class I enrolled in. Is “withdrew via petition, summer 2011” that bad? I know some programs and schools look at a W or anything similar the same way and ignore reasons and whatnot. I’ll stay in the class if it means that I’ll get another blemish on my transcript, but if not then I wouldn’t mind completely withdrawing.

@ tyrion: its psych 101. it’s not hard. i’m just not a fan of the commute I have to make and my semester group blows.

knitknots - register for another one now. Find something light as a throwaway course to take, get in and maybe make it a p/np too. Once you add a course, you then can drop the one you don’t like.

Another idea - change to P/NP for the class, so if you don’t like you will at least keep the transcript pristine.

Finally, sometimes you just have to suck it in and get through it, in spite of a bad professor or unpleasant or inconvenient situations.
