Dropping a class second semester

I know it is too late for me to drop a class now, and I would not want to try to catch up this late in the semester if I could do so.

I am really regretting my decision to take AP English Literature. I did not think it would be this hard. I am consistently getting C's on my essays. I am actually getting lower scores on my essays than in the past. I go in for help as many times as I can. I invest the most time in this class and yet I am not improving. I have not learned much from this class. It is terribly boring, hard to understand, and mostly useless. I know, what a heretic. But I have to interpret and analyze too deeply to glean a modicum of useful insight about human nature. I think I would benefit more from devoting more time to my other classes.

Now, the dreaded question, how will colleges view this? On the applications I already applied to, I put that I will continue this class in second semester. Will they rescind my application upon seeing that I have dropped AP English Literature to an easier class? My high school officials would not care.

I don’t think they will rescind your application if you decide to drop AP Lit but they make think differently about you. What class are you planning to take in place of it? If it is another AP it should have little to no consequence.

Is there another English class you can take for 2nd semester? The biggest concern would be making sure you have 4 years of English. If you have to drop down to a non-AP class, it might effect decisions, but most likely not much. I would recommend notifying the colleges you applied to of the change if you decide to do it.

I need 4 years worth of English to graduate, so it will have to be another English class. There is no other AP English class as I took AP English Language & Composition already. If I switched classes, it will have to be a normal level class.

What happens if I don’t tell the colleges I applied to?
