So I’m currently a senior in high school and enrolled in 5 AP classes (Calc BC, Music Theory, Env Science, English Lit, US Gov). Second semester just started, and I’m looking to drop AP Lit. Sure, I got an A first semester, but the work is tough and it doesn’t even remotely interest me. Regular English classes also get to do something called the 20 Time project, which I feel is more worthwhile. Also, I feel that colleges wouldn’t mind too much considering that I still have 4 AP classes and plan to take all of those AP tests.
So my question: To what extent would dropping the class affect my college admission chances? Would it be a dumb move?
Oh gee, I had a schedule conflict second semester.
Dropping one probably won’t be a problem at all, but run this by your guidcance counselor. That person should have a notion of what the colleges on your list expect of their applicants.
As well as the colleges to which you applied. For most colleges, any deviance in your academic schedule from your application need to be communicated. I doubt any will have an issue since you are replacing it with another English class, but, since AOs don’t like surprises, better safe than sorry.
