Dropping a class

Anyone have an opinion on whether dropping my AP Physics second semester will effect my acceptance at Scripps? I'm applying RD. I got a B in the class first semester, but I don't need it to graduate and I already have 3 years of Science. I'm taking 4 other AP classes and Honors Calculus.
I don't plan on majoring in a Science in college.

If I do drop, do I need to notify Scripps Admission? They already have my mid-year report.

I doubt that it would be too big of a deal, but I don't know. If you think you have borderline chances of being accepted, then I'd hang on to the class. If you think that you're a strong applicant, then you probably have more flexibility.

If you do stay in the class and pass (I think with a 4-5) the AP test, then you will receive elective credit, which is a very nice thing to have (4 elective credits put you one semester ahead, giving you priority registration times).

If you just want to drop the class b/c it's difficult and you're experiencing Senioritis, then I'd encourage you to stick with it. The more challenging the end of your senior year, the less difficult it will be to bring yourself up to speed next year. However, if you're really unhappy (and FYI, a B is not a bad grade), then dropping might be best. Call admissions at Scripps and ask their policy (my guess is that you do have to notify them, but I'm not positive). Talk to your school guidance counselor. Do what's best for you and don't add extra stress by worrying TOO much about what colleges will think.

Thank you Student615 for the feedback.
I plan on seeing my guidance counselor this week.

In Scripps catalog, it looks like you can get a max of 4 elective credits for APs (with a score of 4 or 5). I already have two 4s and two 5s on 10th and 11th grade AP exams. And I'll be taking 4 more AP exams in May.

Even if I drop AP Physics this semester, I'll have 3.5 years of honors level science courses (first semester of AP Physics will turn into Honors Physics if I don't take the AP test).

Doesn't sound like you'll really be hurting yourself if you drop the course (and have legitimate reason for doing so). Good luck!

If the class is causing you extra-stress to the point where its keeping you from doing well in your other classes, then drop it. You don’t need it to ruin your senior year.

I dropped AP Calc my senior year (in favor of TA-ing a math class) after I had already reported which classes I would be taking to Scripps. I also was taking 4 other AP classes and needed a more balanced schedule. The admissions office will probably understand.
